His last two albums were brilliant but I’m not a fan of entire albums consisting merely of covers.

I'm pretty open to this, I do think it will sound like a coherent Will Young album. I'm expecting him and Richard X to ensure it's a complete project. The fact it's a cover album doesn't bother me at all, if anything his choices should ensure that the quality of songs is pretty top notch.

Honestly, if you're going to do a covers album this is how you do it - pick out good tracks that didn't get enough love the first time around they were released.

I mean if you look at the peak positions of his covers:

The biggest hit is Everything But The Girl's Missing, but that's 25+ years old and a lot of people weren't even born then. If anything it's more like when Steps do random Melodifestivalen covers - he's exposing these songs to a new audience.

It seems odd to have a whole album full of covers but a lot of the songs are pretty unknown anyway so I guess they will might sound fresh, like in the case of Steps covers that were mentioned above.
Its good he has gone for well less known for the covers as like you mentioned the way Steps did covers of songs that to many people were new songs, something similar to when Kylie covered on a night like this no one really knew it was a cover version.

I suspect that he wanted to have an album out between now and the 20th anniversery Pop Idol album he's planning so this seems like a solid option.

Will choosing to cover Solange's worldwide hit that never was ('Losing You') gets my seal of approval. What an inspired, unpredictable and imaginative selection of songs to cover. Artists who are tempted to record a cover album should take note.
I prefer the album version of Daniel to the single edit, it stays true to the structure of the original and is better for it

This is the first time I'm not looking forward to a new Will Young album, still I hope it's going to be a success, because I want future albums with original songs. Both cover songs are alright, but after a few listens I'm already done with Elizabeth Taylor, same happened with Daniel before.

wow his cover of Elizabeth Taylor is incredible, love it!

hope the crazy amount of airplay that Daniel got helps with album sales
