Gypsy would be my preferred winner out of what is left. I don't think Sexxx Dreams is as good as it could be, I always think it's just missing something in the production that stops it from being amazing.

I agree! The production plus verses let it down.

Sometimes a story has no end

In second place we have 'Gypsy'! There were rumours that the song was set to be included as the album's second single in the build up to the album's release. Interscope later stated that it was instead being planned as the 3rd single.. Obviously neither were the case and it remains a much-loved album track instead. A few weeks before the album dropped, Gaga premiered an acoustic version of the song. The song was initially inspired by Gaga finding "true love" and it is also about the fact that through Gaga's travels, she felt like her home was the road with her fans. It was the encore, final track on the artRAVE and perfectly encapsulated the energy of the tour around the world.

Here is what Gaga said about the song: "I started writing "Gypsy" with RedOne, and then I finished writing it with DJ White Shadow and Madeon, and myself, obviously, and we finished the production together. I did a lot of the guitar parts on this song, it was sort of my main passion on this record, was getting some really exciting acoustic parts, and my buddy Tim, he plays guitar, he’s so so talented. And this song is about, you know, traveling the world, and sometimes feeling really really lonely, but being okay with being alone because I have my fans, and because, when I get to that different country everyday: they are my home, just for the day. And this record’s all about falling in love, but it’s also about what I think the key is to staying in love, and that’s not trying to stop the other person from being on their own journey, not trying to stop them from being who they are, or trying to change them. That’s really been the new success in my love life. It’s been in allowing the other person to be on their journey, and you be on yours, and that you just be really happy when you’re together and not try to change one another. "

I absolutely love Gypsy. It fills me with such a euphoric energy, similar to when I listen to The Edge of Glory. It's also the perfect touring song
It needed to be the first single! That followed by DWUW, Sexx Dreams and Artpop, rhrow in Applause as a touring video single, and Artpoop would have gone very differently.
did not like gypsy when it came out but it has grown on me a lot since. agree it should have been single 2. bal u need to stop hating on applause!!
Applause did NOT do anything and made Gaga into a joke vs Katy. She needed to release Gypsy first, DWUW second (preferably with the guy who sang Drank (Get Down), Sexx Dreams with Rihanna and reworked third, ARTPOP fourth, Applause last as a song for the fans woth a tour video. She SHOULD have done an Adele, MYFML, and featured of Drank (Get Down,) BEFORE the era even started...

Applause spent literally 14 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 in the US, even with the hate train at the time. How is this something that hasn't done "anything" for Gaga? The song was a hit for lead single and could only be eclipsed if she had released DWUW instead.

The problem of the era wasn't Applause (which was the only correct decision of the era), but all the mess that came after.

Btw, the comparison with Katy makes no sense at all. Roar received twice the airplay that Applause received in the US, plus Katy performed Roar in several countries around the world for its promotion, while Applause's performances were in the US only. Applause was Gaga's first lead single to receive not even a single performance in Europe/Oceania, not to mention the fact that Katy's image was not on a hate train like Gaga's at the time.
