Posted May 24, 20214 yr 23rd May 2021 It's a first week on top for Danish singer Drew Sycamore's great 45 Fahrenheit Girl, which sounds a bit cold to me - 98.6 would be much better as a rule. It's also an exceptional Eurovision Song Contest week, a year after the previous non-contest reached a high in my opinion, as regards quality and quantity of quality of entries, 2021 goes one better by going ahead with a wealth of great songs to pick from - meaning even those which got nil points from the public vote (a record high, I think) weren't actually bad, they just got edged out. Highest new entry is Norway's old-fashioned ballad at 9, with Israel's classy mellow dance one behind at 10. Cyprus, Iceland and Bulgaria make up the next 3 new entries, with Dadi Freyr and VICTORIA repeating their 2020 chart success. Riva Taylor's beautiful Kate Bush-ish Woman shoots up 49 places to 7, Dolly Parton gets another top 20 as God Only Knows proves age is no barrier to making great records, up 29 places, and a first top 20 for For King & Country. Yonaka Call Me A Saint, and let's be honest it's just as well as you can never find one when you need one, in at 25, while Destiny gets Malta a second chart entry in 2 years with Je Me Casse, she peaked at 2 last time so 28 is marginally down on 2020. Ruben enters Running with a second top 40 hit, and France's Barbara Pravi does a mean Edith Piaf-styled chanson one place behind. Voila! All this activity has meant an extended chart to 85, and lots of tracks stalled as they get leapfrogged by the Euro invasion. Duran Duran are back after 5 years away, last time round they grabbed a chart-topper out of a new album, this time they start off Invisible - but make it 40 years since Planet Earth was introduced to them. Or rather, to us, by them. Keith Urban keeps the run of current rapid singles coming, and Nile Rodgers keeps the guest spot hiring coming too. Busy man already at 22 with Jack Savoretti. Galantis, David Guetta & Little Mix get together to make it 5 years and 18 years for the 2 former chart-toppers' runs, and 10 years for the Mixers. Leo Sayer returns with a great new mix of his 1977 US disco single hit (the album track wasn't released as a single in the UK) Easy To Love extending his run to a whopping 48 years, given it's never charted before and this is a new version. Flo-Rida pops up at Eurovision and extends his run to 13 years, on a San Marino track, and The Roop make it 2 contests in a row to chart, too, as Discoteque turns out as quirky as last year's. James make it 30 years of chart success - Sit Down lads I've given your Beautiful Beaches a blue flag! Finally Pet Shop Boys are never far away from my chart, new or old, quite rightly given they are the best act of the last 36 years. So that said, it's a very modest entry at 85 for Cricket Wife - not because I don't like cricket (I don't) or their wives, or because I don't like Baroque Classical Music with Poetry that is 10 minutes long. If it's SO important that they take part release it that way in the first place or don't bother tempting me to pay twice. I realise most people just stream now and can switch allegiances to the new version quite easily, but I'm paying their wages directly and they owe me :lol: Jessie has climbed (just, oops!), Electric is Katy back on form, and Dusk is sounding pretty good when played loud right now, so thanks for the tip! And I really like Heartbreak Anthem as well - even though it's the Little Mix feature that has made it a hit it's very much a Galantis song and I appreciate that a lot as a fan of them!
