Posted June 6, 20214 yr For the England games (and other home nations if there is enough interest!) we will have seperate threads due to the likely volume of posts and it's far easier for casual fans to keep track of. Less than a week to go until England kick off their tournament against Croatia in a repeat of the 2018 World Cup semi-final. The big questions seem to be who is going to start in defence alongside John Stones and who will start up front alongside Kane?

June 6, 20214 yr Author This wouldn't be the team I'd go with but suspect it will be this: Trippier Stones Mings Chilwell Rice Phillips Mount Rashford Kane Grealish Suspect Henderson will get a good runout (25-30 mins) before starting the Scotland game. I'm fully expecting Southgate to rotate the majority of his squad anyway so whoever misses out I reckon starts the Scotland game. One of Grealish/Foden starts and one of Sterling/Rashford/Sterling starts. I only watched the last 25 minutes of the Romania game, but I thought we looked quite good with the 433 we played and Bellingham and Henderson pushed slightly further forward.
June 7, 20214 yr Sterling should be nowhere near the starting XI with the better and in-form options we have. Grealish is a must imo and I'd prob have Rashford the other side. Pretty terrifying thought of Stones & Mings as a CB pair but worryingly that's the best we can put out,. If we get a draw here I'd be happy enough.

Mings is a red card waiting to happen, it's an area where we are so weak and a big reason why I think we will struggle against top sides. On the balance of it calling up Ben White seems the sensible option as I'm not sure Maguire is actually going to be fit.

Still not ideal that someone with only one cap is going to a major tournament but guess we'd need a Liverpool-like CB crisis for him to actually touch the field.

I reckon he starts the final game if we're already qualified. Mings and Coady are both bang average and should be nowhere near starting for England in a major tournament. I can see Coady starting if we play a 3 as the deeper, sweeper CB.
