Posted April 5, 200619 yr This is to discuss everything to do with the 5 sell out gigs that were due to take place in Wembley. Post any news etc about possible replacement venues in here. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING WEMBLEY Press Statement From Robbie Williams Management Company Wembley Stadium today announced that they will not be able to accommodate the scheduled run of events for autumn 2006. This includes the five dates that Robbie was due to play in September. We can assure you that every effort is being made to find a suitable alternative venue and as soon as details have been confirmed we will mail you with further information. In the mean time we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. NO LONGER AT WEMBLEY Gigs: Bon Jovi, Take That, Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams Football: 2006 FA Cup final, Community Shield, two England games Rugby league: Challenge Cup final FA confirms Wembley delay Building company Multiplex said "full practical completion" of the rebuilt stadium would not be achieved until the end of September. Another two months are needed to run test events, Wembley said. The venue's opening event was due to have been the FA Cup final on 13 May. An Football Association statement said: "It is clear that the construction of Wembley Stadium is significantly behind schedule." All original tickets for the relocated Take That and Bon Jovi concerts will remain valid, while Rolling Stones ticketholders will be issued with new tickets for Twickenham. The Rolling Stones' European tour promoter John Giddings said it was a "national disgrace" that England could not build its national stadium on time. "I'm not saying we're going to lose money because we got enough warning to shift the shows," he told BBC Radio Five Live. "But it's not a good experience to sell tickets for one place and to have to perform at another, really is it? Bon Jovi were due to have been the first band to play at the new venue "We wanted to play at the new all-singing, all-dancing Wembley Stadium." Bon Jovi were the last band to play at the old Wembley Stadium in 2000 and had hoped to be the first to headline the rebuilt venue. "Having closed the original Wembley Stadium, it would have been a fitting honour to open the new one," frontman Jon Bon Jovi said. "However, the most important element was always the live concerts themselves. So while the location may have changed, the celebration will remain the same. "Thank you to our fans - for your loyalty and your patience. We'll see you for two great nights of rock 'n' roll at Milton Keynes." A "limited number" of extra Take That tickets will go on sale on 7 April due to extra capacity at Milton Keynes. Singer Gary Barlow said: "We're more than happy to hold the shows at Milton Keynes Bowl, it's going to look great. "We saw the stage set this week, it's unbelievable. I think it's going to better any of our other tours." The reformed pop group's dates at Wembley Arena are not affected
April 5, 200619 yr Don't know what this is worth but a poster on Digital Spy has a relative who works at Knebworth. He/She says nobody from Robbie's camp has been in touch with a view to holding the rescheduled concerts there. If true, I guess we can rule out Knebworth....
April 5, 200619 yr Must admit I had wondered about Knebworth, wouldn't have minded seeing him there again to be honest, if it was between there and MK Bowl I'd go with Kneb, been to gigs at both and found Kneb to be the better venue. I'm trying to ignore all rumours and hear-say tho, just waiting, with everything crossed for the "official" announcement
April 5, 200619 yr 10 nights at Hampden! :cheer: You can all sleepover at my house. Oh and any over 60s can now get Nationwide free bus travel in Scotland. So that should be attractive to a few people on this Board ;) :P
April 5, 200619 yr Ignore previous message. Scotland has Bird Flu. You can't come here. Hadrian's Wall is being rebuilt as we speak. Hampden will probably be closed because a pigeon with a sniff is sitting on the pitch. :o
April 5, 200619 yr What about the Rose Bowl in Southampton? Does anyone know the exact capacity of the venue? I heard it was 35,000. Edited April 5, 200619 yr by Goth
April 5, 200619 yr I think Milton Keynes Bowl is likely ;) as that's where some of the others as being held now.
April 6, 200619 yr Author But apperently Milten Keys only hold 65,000. Robbie sold out 5 nights at Wembley to over 75,000. So i'm not sure
May 1, 200619 yr Author Wembley's Finishing Touches to Be Added in September (Update1) May 1 (Bloomberg) -- Wembley Stadium, the home of soccer in England, will receive its finishing touches in September, nine months after it was scheduled to be finished, construction company Multiplex Group said. While construction of the 90,000-seat stadium will be mostly finished by June, final work such as cleaning will take a further three months, Sydney-based Multiplex said in a statement today. The English Football Association has already had to move this month's F.A. Cup final between Liverpool and West Ham to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium and concerts by Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams have been shifted because of the delays. The opening date will depend on when the F.A. finishes works such as outfitting the venue and setting up retail and restaurant areas, Multiplex said. Multiplex is seeking a contract extension from the Football Association for the 757 million pound ($1.4 billion) stadium, which will be the world's most expensive sporting venue when it's completed. The construction company has already sued steel contractor Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd. for 30 million pounds for allegedly abandoning work on the arena. Cleveland Bridge is countersuing Multiplex for 18 million pounds, claiming breach of contract. Multiplex in February said it had lost about A$350 million ($265 million) on the project, and had to get waivers from its lenders after breaching financial covenants. Its shares have slumped 22 percent in the past year. The stock rose 2 cents to A$3.08 at the 4:15 p.m. market close in Sydney.
