Biography

hi there! my name is olivia! I’m 18 years old and writing songs is my favorite thing to do in the world. I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember and I fall more in love with it every day. The first song I ever got published was called “All I Want.” I wrote it for a show I act in and it was a super cool experience that opened up a lot of doors for me. On the last day before Covid lockdown, I met the team at Interscope/Geffen records and a producer named Dan Nigro for the first time. It turned out to be a very momentous day for so many reasons. I spent most of quarantine writing songs in my living room and producing them in a garage, including ‘drivers license’. It was always a really special song to me but I never expected the response it got. It absolutely blew my mind and I still to this day refuse to believe it all actually happened. The day I am writing this is actually the day that I turn in my debut album! I’m sooo excited for you to hear it and I feel so grateful that I get to make music for my job. - Spotify

Biography

There’s a lovely moment a little ways into Apple Music’s Songwriter documentary about Ed Sheeran in which Sheeran, jet-lagged and carrying a cup of tea, straggles out into a yard in Malibu at dawn, sits down at his laptop and begins writing a song about the moment right in front of him: the crisp air, the birdsong, the hot tea, the day ahead. He gets a full verse in, melody and all, then pauses. “Songs are weird things,” he says. “How so?” an interviewer asks. “They just come and go,” Sheeran says, smiling. “And they never give you any warning.” For Sheeran, they seem to come pretty reliably. Born in 1991 in Halifax, England, he started out gigging on the UK pub circuit before releasing his first studio album, +, in 2011, and has since become one of the most unstoppable singer-songwriters in music, forging a light blend of folk, pop, hip-hop and dance that feels slick but lived-in, intimate but universal. Whether on his own (“Sing”, “The A Team”, “Shape of You”, “Perfect”) or in collaboration with artists from Taylor Swift to Eminem to Justin Bieber, Sheeran has a unique ability to strike a chord that feels both bittersweet and redemptive, good-natured and genuine: the hopeless romantic who convinces you he might just be right. In 2017, he was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, touching Prince Charles on the arm while shaking his hand—a breach of royal protocol, and an appealingly human one at that. - Apple Music

The lyrics of 'Good 4 u' and 'Traitor' remind me so much of Alanis Morisette's 'You Oughta Know' although not quite as fierce.
Am I right in thinking good 4 u is due for acr this week? Finally might have a different top 2 next week!

Yup it's almost definitely gone to ACR - wondering if Stay could potentially be #2? Wouldn't surprise me to see it overtaking Clash, and obviously Three Lions won't be there. I guess the competition is whether anything from the KSI / Pop Smoke albums do well enough...!

Dave and Stormzy do like their politics don't they - in virtually every track they make a reference. Although thought BBC would have to censor it to avoid political bias?

It is not political bias to mention a politician in a song. If they were singing "Oh Jeremy Corbyn!", it would be, but all they do is a piece of word-play around the phrase Labour.

Biography

British rapper KSI made as much of a name for himself with his online videos and boxing as he did with his music, but the multi-faceted entertainer wore many hats as he built his empire of one. He moved from satirical songs in his earliest days into more nuanced songwriting and production on his breakthrough 2015 single "Lamborghini," refining his sound even more on subsequent projects like the venomous 2018 EP Disstracktions.

Born Olajide Olatunji, KSI was known as KSIOlajideBT in 2008 when he became a regular video game commentator, uploading his videos to the web, most of them focused on the FIFA series. It was a footballer who inspired him to try his hand at rap as Emile Heskey was the topic of "Heskey Time," a satirical rap that kicked off a series of football-mocking songs, including 2012's "Sweaty Goals" with Randolph. In 2013 he joined rapper Sway on his single "No Sleep," and in 2014 he appeared on producer Droideka's track "Get Hyper." In 2015 he dropped his own track, "Lamborghini" featuring P-Money, along with "Keep Up," which was also the title cut for 2016's debut KSI EP. His book KSI: I Am a Bellend appeared that same year and was released under the title KSI: I Am a Tool in the United States. He was briefly signed to Island Records but cut ties with the label after the release of 2016 EP Jump Around. The next several years found KSI staying busy with content creating, boxing, and a growing music career, working independently to trickle out singles like 2017's "Creature" and projects like the 2018 EP Disstracktions. He became more involved in boxing, escalating beefs with other online video creators into full-on white-collar boxing matches. Particularly spectacular was his dispute with American Internet personality and occasional music-maker Logan Paul. In 2019, KSI signed a deal with RBC Records, immediately issuing his first single "Down Like That" on November 7 of that year. The song featured cameo appearances from Rick Ross, S-X, and Lil Baby and peaked at number ten on the U.K. Singles Chart. He followed this success with second single, "Wake Up Call," featuring Trippie Redd, in January of 2020. His debut full-length, Dissimulation, arrived in May of that year. Featuring collaborators from Jeremih to Offset, the album demonstrated the musician's skill on the mike, as well as his proficiency in genres from trap to Afro-swing. - Apple Music

Biography

Fifth Harmony hits such as “Worth It” established Normani Kordei as a strong, soulful R&B singer, but the vocalist shows off even more range as a solo artist. On the trap-kissed 2018 Khalid collaboration “Love Lies”, she dips into her lower register, lending gravitas to lyrics questioning a potential partner’s intentions. In contrast, singing with Sam Smith on 2019’s “Dancing with a Stranger”, Normani matches their aching croon with an expressive, longing tone. Born in 1996, the avowed Beyoncé superfan grew up in New Orleans and Houston—her family moved to Texas after Hurricane Katrina—and recorded her first song at age 13. She competed as an individual singer on The X Factor USA in 2012 before pairing up with her future Fifth Harmony bandmates on the show. After officially going solo in 2018, she increased her output considerably: the next year, she issued the glossy R&B-pop song “Motivation” (a co-write with Ariana Grande) and teamed up with Grande and Nicki Minaj for the dancehall-inspired Charlie’s Angels soundtrack song “Bad to You”. Subsequent collaborations—for example, a 2020 team-up with fellow Houston upstart Megan Thee Stallion on the bouncy hip-hop track “Diamonds”—hint that the sonic sky’s the limit for Normani. - Apple Music

Hope that the music video can help push 'I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE' back to the top 5 if not a new peak next week. ('good 4 u' going to ACR and 'Three Lions' naturally dying will help as well of course x)
Isn’t good 4 u set to be on ACR as of next week?

Edited by daniellovesmusic

Isn’t good 4 u set to be on ACR as of next week?

Yes this has literally been mentioned in a few posts just above :P

I wouldn’t be surprised to see stay grab #2 next week, clash seems to be falling after a strong start especially on Spotify, where as stay seems a lot more stable. But like mentioned it all depends how these KSI/Pop smoke album tracks do.
Dance Monkey is now the 20th song to have spent 100 weeks in the UK Singles Chart Top 100.
Yikes KSI and Pop Smoke album bomb in the same week! :nocheer: Mind you generally prefer charts with more new entries than fewer.

# 42 World In Motion

#44 Sam Fender

#53 Sigala/Rita

#55 James Arthur

Shane Codd not top 100. :(

Shame that 'World In Motion' fell just short, I was hoping it had enough legs to scrape in.

Krept & Konan et al. at #51, just short of becoming a 4th top 50 hit for Morrisson without any making the top 40 - the new Gorky's Zygotic Mynci? x (Sam Fender also similarly getting a third top 50 hit without a top 40).

Woulda been nice for Sam and New Order to sneak into the top 40!
