How much has your choice of entries changed from when you first participated in BJSC?

I try and put forward stuff that I love but that is a little bit different, generally overlooked but could quite easily be commercially successful with the vague hope that some here enjoy it as much as me. DyE “Fantasy” in 63 was my first ever entry, though it DNQ'd - usually these sit within the alternative/dance genres which is my personal favourite, although occasionally I go retro and of course there is the odd ODD entry like: The Len Goodman Independent Artists For Online Kindness Collective's “Theme For BuzzJack (BBC News Remix)” in 87 *.* Still gutted that DNQ'd, along with Charlotte Adigéry in 113. Recently I've just been sending singles climbing/entering my personal chart as I'm a lazy bish.

How have you adapted your entries to suit current trends of other nations?

The only time(s) that I've deliberately sent something that another nation would definitely love was Daniel Bortz in 135 and Special Request in 80. I wouldn't be able to spot a trend if it had a giant neon sign spelling the word 'TREND'.

Do you have a proven formula for success?

Yes (on loan from Aeroche), but we choose not to use it at the moment. Gotta let everyone else have a chance, right?

Do you stick to just one or two genres or do you like to mix it up from time to time and send something experimental?

It's very much one or two genres I'm afraid (Alternative and Dance) but I do try to experiment within them using some different types of tracks- such as mostly instrumental like Fuck Buttons “Surf Solar” in 68 and Martin Rott “Kinetic Theory” in 131 and I went quite electropop with Elaine Mai & MayKay “No Forever” in 132 earlier this year. I'd like to mix it up a bit more in future, however 137 has already been sort of selected and remains typically 'Doctor Blind' for now.

Really enjoyed listening to the reactions from people to these questions, thank you for so many responses! ^_^

I was just wondering if it was a good or bad practice to post potentials before a contest in the hope that someone else may pick a winning entry from the selections. I don’t generally do this but I see others do it sometimes. I’m not sure if it would cause me more conflict if someone picked a song I rated below another potential. I know it can feel good sharing with others to get feedback, but sometimes it’s just as fun and risky to send something to a contest and see what the reaction from everyone is.

Doesn't seem like posting potentials to see what people think would give you an advantage from my experience -- all of them resulted in a DNQ, hence I must resist doing so in the future  I think the main takeaway is that believe in your ability to pick a song and sometimes your own personal judgement is exactly what people think. ;)
