should be interesting to see how germany play without Ballack :).

the game yesterday was alright, but!

the first half was good, the second half wasnt as good, and the ref was kinda.. erm... i dunnow :S just iffy

Think England and Brazil will both win their groups and meet in the semis with Brazil dumping us out like in 2002.

IMO, England's chances of winning are getting slimmer and slimmer.

So far the countries who have played far superior to us imo are Argentina, Ivory Coast, Czech Republic, Germany and Italy.

Let's hope I'm wrong after Trinidad & Tobago's match with us. :(

nobody seems to rate the Czech republic, but they are ranked #2 by Fifa, so they could be a good outside bet.

I doubt that half of their players will be able to last the whole tournament. IMO to go far the Czech Republic HAVE to finish 1st as I think the 2nd place will play Brazil (if Brazil win there group) and I think the Czech Republic would get torn to peices by Brazil.

Czech currently have the goal difference advantage over Italy. I can see them both winning their next games. Their deciding match with each other at the end to avoid Brazil will be VERY interesting!

England IMO will win the world cup, not being biased but we have the squad, players like Owen, Rooney, Beckham, Cole ect etc... can win us the WC. Sven isn't the man for the job though and it'll be good to see him go after the world cup.

Completely over rating England I think. Owen is unfit, Beckman is past it, sign of desperation(lack of alternative) that he is even considered for the squad these days.

England's best player is Gerrard. Still England still don't really play as a team, no team spirit and as such are likely to lose heart when behind and lose the the lead when ahead. Combine that with a squad of players that are generally unfit, going beyond 75mins is a problem for them, going beyond 90mins that is likely to happen in later stages and they are at a serious disadvantage. And they can't get out on the penalty thing either, as the record in that area is also poor.

Have you ever even watched Beckam or England recently? Beckham is in the form of his LIFE at the moment. He has never been crossing a ball better than at the moment and there is certainly not a better crosser of a ball at this moment in time in the world!

No I haven't seen Beckham recently. Not since he went to Spain.

Has he improved then? Or is it just hype?

Yeah he's improved dramatically. His set-peices are fantastic ATM. He's in great form ATM, which means great news for England :cheer: .

Since I've seen the first round matches so far, apart from 1 or 2, the countries that are capable of winning the competition, it will have to be Brazil and Spain, I can't see any other country winning it, based on performance.

If I had to pick one of those countries, I will have to say Spain, because a European country will win it this year and their performance was very good, as there is a pattern forming in the roll of honour list. Please see Roll of Honour thread by me.

I don't think Spain will win on that performance. It was too good, they'll never last. They've peaked too soon. If anything it's better to struggle through the group stages and then peak. They'll probably get out of the group now and will beat France/Switz/Korea but they'll be out in the quarters. That and they fail at every single major international tournament. Ever.

Spain are notorious underachievers, I give them QFs at best... The Czechs to me are far more impressive than any other Euro team that I've seen, they absolutely mauled the Americans and will do extremely well....

Spain are far too inconsitant IMO. They have the potential to win, but they can be so un-predicatble along with half of there players, especially Torres who has the potential to becoe a great striker but he is great one game and average the next.

Oops I forgot about the Czechs, yes they have performed very well in this tournament, and they have never won it, but have been in 2 finals. (1934 & 1962 as Czechoslovakia)
