Ed Sheeran has probably calculated the whole era in advance to ensure he remains at number one right up until gone Christmas. for one his new single very conveniently drops the week that Bad Habits is going to ACR.

It looks like 'Jail' and 'Ok Ok' have had the numbers of the original and Pt 2 versions combined today as they both only appear once in the update (the latter having the Pt 2 version as the one that appears for whatever reason), though weirdly 'Junya' and 'Jesus Lord' both have their Pt 2 version appearing separately. I guess everything about this rollout has been a mess so Spotify charts glitching is par for the course  assuming it'll be fixed later in the week. It appears 'Jail' wouldn't have hit #1 without being combined, given it's only ~90k ahead of 'STAY' and the lowest of his album tracks did 89k (with all the others over 100k). That is unless the numbers for 'Jail Pt 2' were just not counted at all for some reason.

Very impressive numbers anyway especially for an unannounced midweek and midday drop - I know this album has been long awaited but tbh I was thinking the constant delays and general messiness might backfire and just lead to people getting bored before the album even dropped, guess that clearly isn't the case and there was still a huge base of people who were going to check it out the day it dropped no matter the circumstances! Whether it has any longevity is a different question of course.

I would guess that the 2 versions of 'Jail' will be combined as Pt 2 is basically just a remix as I understand (a needlessly provocative remix at that, but Kanye gonna Kanye I guess), but who knows really x

Hopefully Ed will be at the top for even longer than that, if his new single is well received then it could be #1 for 7 weeks up until the album release, then another song from the album could take over until the end of the year (if it can overcome the xmas tracks)

Let's hope the songs are better than the last 2 eras in which he really hit rock bottom as a songwriter with those crappy melodies and even crappier lyrics :o

sorry Ed

Kanye has the whole top 10 in the US

with Jail doing more than 4.2 million

Jail Pt II was added to the album late, it might not have been live long enough to be counted in yesterday's update.

If Visiting Hours couldn't go #1 (or top 3 for that matter) just like that, it's not guaranteed for the rest of the songs either.

Well yes he's not guaranteed #1 with his next single but it should definitely have a far better chance than 'Visiting Hours'. Ed is really just about the only artist who can casually go top 5 with promo singles.

It was only missing for a few hours, I don't think that would make that much difference (and that definitely doesn't explain 'Ok Ok'!)

Kanye tracks outside top 40:

45. Lord I Need You

46. Tell The Vision

47. Come to Life

62. Junya pt 2

72. Jesus Lord pt 2

no idea if the pt 2 versions are being combined with their respective tracks for chart purposes, but seeing as Spotify has combined Ok Ok I'll give the combined positions anyway and presume they are.

this Tubbo person who has the one other NE is a Minecraft YouTuber associated with Dream btw, "yay".

A single artist been able to monopolise the #1 position for half a year unbroken isn't something to celebrate.

I don't care it's Ed or Drake or Stormzy or Adele or any of my personal favourites, an artist using well timed releases to get around the ACR rules and keep replacing themselves at #1 for months would just be dull and depressing.

If Visiting Hours couldn't go #1 (or top 3 for that matter) just like that, it's not guaranteed for the rest of the songs either.

The main reason for that being that ‘Visiting Hours’ is just a promo single which he even announced before he released it so obviously not gonna be as big. His next song out will be a proper single on the 10th of September so he’s got a much better chance, then when that single is due for ACR his album will be getting released. He’s really thought it out well.

I think it's definitely too soon to just assume Ed is going to stay at #1 for months on end again tbf. 'Bad Habits' did end up having a long run of course but there's no guarantee the next single won't have a similarly shaky start and then fail to gain or stay stable in the way 'Bad Habits' did, it's really dependent on the song. I think he has said that 'Bad Habits' is not representative of the sound of the next single / the album as a whole.

Any news on Drake? Wonder if his album will be commercial with big samples and big names featured

or more in the vein of the last tracks he released...

There have been rumours for ages that Ariana is on the Drake album but I don't think anything is confirmed (except the release date). This one is an actual album and not just a mixtape so unless he has had a change of heart probably expect another Scorpion-esque bloated album full of commercial songs.
haha someone sent it to me and really. thought it was a joke :D
If the streams of Jail and Jail pt 2 get combined on OCC I could genuinely see Jail hitting #1 tbh

really cannot see how having lost 2 days of streams, and yesterday they did the same so Ed is 1 million streams ahead on Spotify only

plus Ed has still healthy download sales + Alexa is on his side :)

Yeah there’s no chance, but if both versions of Jail do get combined I think it could make top 10 on Friday, with his other 2 tracks getting top 40.
But also depends what happens the rest of the week, if it was just curiosity streams or if he maintains the same figures or even increases
