Posted December 13, 200618 yr Has anyone seen the NME this week??? the one with the feature celebrating 30 years of sex pistols by having girls aloud punkifyed standing in a wall with the word arnachy sprayed on it. is this the most alternative thing they have done in years (because its probably the most mainstream)? (then again it might reaffirm the belief that with punk there was no spirit of anarchy anyway it was just a cynical way of making money out of chaos? a big great rock n roll swindle?) not seem this weeks issue just saw the pic in 'Cheryl Cole's Heroin Hell article in the redtop (that is shes seen some people done 'smack'') wonder what your opinion of the nme is. does it provide a good range of indie and alternative acts or should Ken Bruce be the next cover star?
December 13, 200618 yr NME is a load of $h!te. It is aimed at middle class indie loving college types and is about as fickle and musically narrow minded as said college types. It has about as much musical journalistic merit as smash hits magazine. And at least with smash hits you got a free gift. -_-
December 14, 200618 yr Unmitigated sh!te.... This "Girls Aloud" cover just marks a new low in what was once a proud bastion of music journalism.... ...A VERY long time ago Never.Waste.Glitter......

December 14, 200618 yr It's not fit to wipe Smash Hits' dead arse. Some journalists in the NME are still decent - Mark Beaumont for instance, who's been there for years now - but nearly all the other decent ones have gone now. The editor Conor McNicholas doesn't seem to be doing a very good job at all. Then again, it has to appeal to the masses (the Radio 1 listening lot) in terms of its interviews and main features to sell copies. I'm pretty sure most of the staff there would rather write 2 page dissertations on the Stockholm neu-twee (well, probably what they'd call it) scene than simply transcribe the jabberings of ill-informed w****rs like Johnny Borrell or Tom Meighan...but that's what the public want...that's what the public gets. There are better magazines out there if you look for them - Plan B, Clash (although it seems to be selling out big time) and others...trouble is they tend to be bi-monthly. Nope, time to look to the blogs I say.
