A track that came out last year, but having re-discovered it going through Attlas' backlog following 'Feels Like' getting big. It's another beautiful melodic house instrumental track here, very intricately produced. Put out on Lane 8's label, it ended up out-peaking all of his singles here.

Really like "The Business", surprised that it was a huge smash in Germany, #3 on the Year-End list on there.

As an outsider it does seem like the kind of song Germany would absolutely love so I'm not surprised there!

A 2017 track from them, which for whatever reason got a re-release this year and managed to make it a big hit in Germany. I hadn't discovered Tinlicker at the time of its original release so it was good as new to me too, and it is a brilliant minimal deep house track. A shame that success couldn't have transferred over to the UK but it clearly wasn't basic enough for that chart. The song is so smooth and warm like having a blanket for your ears.

Worakls only released one original title this year but the time and effort that must have gone into this most likely would've been double what most producers do to make one song. It's very grandiose and classical-influenced which is not easy to pull off in a dance record but he does it. Well worth a listen if you liked "Storm" in BJSC and this passed you by.

Keeping us fed in-between album eras Lane 8 put out this to start the year off which is a piano-led vocal melodic house track. With his name-power having increased throughout 2020 this instantly got him a first top 10 hit although I still consider "Brightest Lights" as his best. We'll be getting the album in less than a month from now so it's likely we'll be seeing him back in this rundown next year.

It almost feels wrong to have this right above two more "sophisticated" tracks but hey, I still enjoy a good ole generic bop when it's done well. Joel Corry continued his hit-streak with me and of course collaborating with Raye was only ever going to turn out well given her history on dance hits. It's very light and fun and with just the right amount of songwriting and production effort to put it above the Nathan Dawes, Shane Codds and Navoses.

No doubt about it that this was the most Summery song put out this year, sounding especially great on the occasions where the sun did shine. I was never all too keen on the original M&S version of this but PDM gave it the uplift it so very much needed for 2021. A proper house anthem!

Another trance anthem from ilan Bluestone now, and the track that brought him back into my top 10 after 6 years since his breakout hit "Spheres". With a very strong vocal hook and melodic elements it's just how I like the modernised version of trance to sound. The payoff at the 3 minute mark is huge!

Not that I knew it beforehand, but Tinlicker were the perfect act to modernise the trance classic "Children", giving it a progressive edge. I don't think anyone could've done a better job of it. Staying very true to the original and not cheapening the sample at all, though making it a bit more festival-friendly. Some really lush plucks going on which really compliment the original piano line.

A very special song for Gareth Emery, one to signify the beginning of the end of the Covid era, for better times coming ahead, the return of live performances and touring. And what a song to mark this with, a huge-sounding right emotional trance anthem that sounded like a future classic the moment I first heard it. It was so good that I even briefly considered using it for my 100th BJSC anniversary entry. One to check out if you miss the sound of the big EDM anthems of the 2010s as it definitely has a bit of that in it despite technically being a trance song.

Time for another "emosh" trance song, although this falls under progressive trance it does end up having a big synthy payoff. Susana's vocal (who you may remember from a couple of BJSC songs) is one of the very strongest in the genre too and it was through following her on Spotify that led me to this track in the first place. With lyrics of holding on through the bad times and love seeing us through it was rather apt for the past 2 years we'd been through. Aurosonic as I'd soon come to realise are absolutely brilliant at doing this kind of trance too and a handful of their other songs soon charted albeit quite a bit lower than this.

Nora En Pure's had a lot of hits this year but none managed to out-do the continuation of 'Wetlands' chart run. Having won BJSC soon after I announced its EOY position last year (if only I'd got to it first!) it of course raced to a new peak but couldn't quite be her 2nd #1. An instrumental track but with a very memorable melody, it's a real beauty of a song though taking all the best bits of Nora's style; with piano, strings and even a flute and harp in there. The atmosphere of the track really takes you to these 'wetlands' in a musical sense.

Oh dear :lol: I don't have any recollection of it sadly. Giving the 'Let The Sun Shine' remix a listen now, it's sounding quite refreshing! A modern rework of a classic that works very well.

Put out last year as part of the album, it had passed me by as I was giving attention to 'No Warning Lights'. It was however given a single release with a couple of remixes this year but neither of those compared to the original cut, best heard in its full length 7:39 version. It ended up being the unluckiest #2 ever spending 7 weeks there behind the year's longest #1 runner, it would've been a #1 in almost any other time of the year. The track is a real beast of a vocal progressive trance effort, very intricately produced as BT is well known for - and he's been making music for longer than I've been alive..

My introduction to Attlas here, who is primarily known for melodic house tracks though he delves into other bits of electronica on his albums. It came on my radar for featuring on a deadmau5 label compilation, and I was mostly intrigued to have Colleen's name pop up for me again as she'd been rather quiet the past few years not really having done much of note since her deadmau5 collabs. As for the song, it's a beautiful very airy track. Sadly it got a hard time in BJSC for me being put in a very competitive semi and just losing out. Attlas of course had 'Faya' become his 2nd #1 later in the year which was #31 in this EOY but will soon out-sell this.
