I must admit I don’t think I know half these artists.

What did these specials use to be like say 10 years ago?

The 2011 Christmas special featured the mighty The Vaccines, Pixie Lott, Jessie J, and Olly Murs

Hahaha thanks. Well I know who all of them are.

I guess it just goes to show how little I know of the UK chart scene these days.

" BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo will return as host alongside fellow Radio 1 DJ Jordan North, who will be making his Top of the Pops debut."

So after presenting Top Of The Pops for 17 consecutive years it appears Fearne Cotton has ended her association with the show, removing the last real connection between the annual Christmas show and the weekly show of old.

Christmas Day episode was filmed yesterday

Both shows were filmed on Sunday and Monday - there was no rhyme or reason to it, as some performers for Christmas & NYE were there Sunday and others on Monday.

Oh. I always thought they were filmed separately. Guess that would allow for Mabel to do both performances at once!
I always assumed from watching it was all filmed at once in terms of the acts!

At least there's Sam Fender, Tom Grennan, Griff, Dermot Kennedy, all of these are good

Bit weird they have Sigrid when she's only had a couple flops this year

Yeah they've been doing that filming in sessions thing for years now. Guess it makes it easier to book the acts and then just edit them in the order they want.

Looks like another year I'm not bothering with this year's edition then looking at that lineup.

Where's the acts that aren't Radio 1 approved that have done well this year also in that lineup?

And why on earth have they shoved it off from the 2pm slot it used to occupy? Anyone would think the BBC wanted to get rid of it or something. Oh... Wait...

It's been on a bit earlier for several years now. Surely if they wanted to get rid of it they just would. I think BBC Music department are still quite protective of the brand and like the idea of keeping it on life support. Whether anyone will ever be brave enough to bring it back on a more regular basis who knows. Still think it could work in a Saturday early evening slot and maybe not every week all year round, and with a not-so-tied-to-the-top-40 format.

Funnily enough the Top of the Pops Magazine also still exists! I saw one the other day with Damiano from Maneskin & Matty Healy on the cover.

They did say they were axing it a few years ago now, but then they had a lot of complaints and backlash and had to backtrack, so perhaps they are instead trying to wind it down over the years to a point where they think no-one will care if they axe it. I do think it will go eventually and I'll be sad when that day comes, even if I'm not so bothered by the acts appearing any more.

I bought it every month for a long time. Too long a time if I'm honest. When I started buying it in 1995 it had mutliple charts and other chart and music based facts and features, then toned down a bit over time to a less chart-nerd oriented and more general celeb gossip mag but by the time I stopped buying it, maybe a decade ago, it was almost devoid of anything related to music at all, at least partly because there was no longer a show for them to use to get photographs and interviews with the pospstars.

I honestly think it'd work best on a Sunday night in what's now the Doctor Who slot, or as a lead in lead out to Strictly (either the main show on Saturday/the results show).

Running it every week would be complete overkill but two series a year - one in the spring and one in the autumn would surely be enough.

This is it I don’t watch due to the artists anymore more the tradition and the exclusivity of it only being on twice a year, always a tradition to watch it on Xmas day!
