Tom Grennan provided vocals and the singer had a busy period of charted hits in the Summer of 2021 with a solo hit to his name as well as a feature on a single by Ella Henderson too. By Your Side was certainly a decent single, but not the most favourite of Calvin’s back catalogue. It will go down as a one hit wonder from this year, but the hope is that more singles will arrive in the near future.”

Mila Falls helped to make this an instant hit in my personal chart. It was certainly one of the best dance songs of the Summer of 2021 for me. That Thing will definitely be a song I return to in the future, and hopefully another single will follow this one in 2022. I also hope that Mila Falls will have her first official credited hit in the near future too.”

This fresh Summer anthem was almost an official UK Top 40 single but peaked at #41. It was the follow up to Fake Friends which performed better generally. Inside the EOY Top 40 does feel right for this release, it was heavily played at the time and deserved a higher peak than it got too.”

I’m not sure I would choose to chart any music by Jubël again in the future.”

Tell It To My Heart was a slow burner that became a highlight from MEDUZA’s back catalogue. Hozier provides some fine vocals on the track and it definitely deserved more commercial success than it has so far got in the UK. I suspect the song will feature on the EOY chart for 2022 also but likely to finish lower as it had its peak in 2021. Hopefully another release will follow soon.”

Remarkably, it was also the winner of BJSC 140 which I had attempted to confirm but was too late. Having not really paid attention to music by Confidence Man before, it was great to make this discovery and it has been heavily played since. No doubt another song that will feature somewhere in my EOY for 2022.”

Hoping for more releases from Shift K3Y to come.”

Another song that was played so much around the summer of 2021 and it’s feel good vibes maintained its placement on my personal chart for some 18 weeks. I am sure it will continue to be played in the future.”

Certainly Majestic became much more of a household name in the dance industry after the success of this song, and whilst he’s had other releases since with Nightcrawlers and also with Alex Hosking, it’s yet to be seen what his next hit will be.”

The rumours of new music from them started long before the actual release of new music, and if I’m honest, at first it was quite disappointing because the quality was not what was expected, but this single with The Weeknd changed that and it came to be one of the best songs I discovered in the latter part of the year.”

I would have loved to see it be a hit at the time, and I’ve been somewhat surprised with the direction that Billen Ted have gone in since then and always been sadly underwhelmed.”

David Guetta was everywhere in the Summer of 2021 and this became another official UK hit for him.”

The dance song became a favourite during the end of the Summer and remained in it’s peak position of #3 for four consecutive weeks. It definitely deserves to be in the EOY Top 40.”

However, Navos had a couple of great releases in 2021, and this was certainly one of them, courtesy of some vocal assistance by HARLEE who has previously worked with the likes of Joel Corry and James Hype. You & I managed to stay in the Top 40 for 3 months and finishes at #25.”

Looking forward to more music from Tom Grennan in the future, and more remixes like this from Billen Ted.”

The 2021 edit (later renamed to just “Edit”) was an immediate earworm as soon as it came on my radar. It had been released for a while before I discovered it, but when I did I felt sure that it would be my next BJSC entry… only for it to be vetoed as it started to gain some actual traction in the charts. It’s certainly a standout for me, and I might have rated it slightly higher than #23 but then again it did only have 8 weeks.”

It’s strong chart run that started in 2020 continued for some time following the early success of the song in the official charts. It’s a great little pop song by Ava Max and one that I think defined her career, just a shame we haven’t seen quite the same from her since, but her collaboration with Tiësto is definitely a step in the right direction.”

Chicane had a number of new releases in 2021 and this one was the one that stood out the most to me. The song really felt like a break away from the commercial releases of the time and gave me something a little different to enjoy listening to each week, hence the successful chart run. It just missed out on an EOY Top 20 finish by a margin.”
