Torul - really liked the production and vocal arrangement on this. The song gave me Hurts vibes

Also a fan of Sigrid's "Mirror" and I haven't been crazy about her previous releases.

We kick off our Top 100 with a song I discovered from the slowly-dying iTunes chart - this one entered in the Top 10 before a campaign pushed it up to the top spot. That was enough for me to be interested, and after hearing the song I was very impressed and added it to my playlist. It's a nice acoustic piece, with his vocals having a slight regional twang which encances the piece as well.

The only Bastille track in my countdown this year, this is definitely a contrast to WHAT YOU GONNA DO from last year but still hits the mark. The punchy and synth-heavy chorus really give this a level of freshness that their other releases from this year lack (particulatly the one where he swears at everyone ;) ) and the whole focus on dreaming makes the whole thing have an out-of-this world feel to it.

Another song I discovered through my iTunes chart monitoring, this is a beautiful cover of a traditional Scottish song (although I didn't realise this when I charted it!) KT's voice works really well on this, as does Alan Cumming's over-exaggerated Scottish accent (apparently he's lived in America most of his life). The musical interlude in the middle is very soothing as well.

Another song I discovered... guess where? iTunes :P I'd almost completely forgotten about ex-BGT star James Smith when this came out and clicked with me instantly. After initially dropping quite quickly out of my Top 40, I realised the song was staying in my head a lot longer than I'd expected and a long Top 100 run followed. It's not a typical pop song, it has a dark vibe to it which adds a whole new dimension.

And we finish our section of (coincidentially) songs with short stays in the Top 10 with the highest Zuzu song in this countdown. The whole toolbox-esque instrumentation of this track is really intriguing, plus her own voice really stands out here. And the song itself is a very critical take on both climate change and the general darkness of the human population which is interesting to listen to.

I decided to check out the Snuts song because I've heard a lot about them but never heard any of their music. I wasn't really digging it unfortunately. It was a lot lighter and breezier than I was expecting.

I remember 'I Do This All The Time' being quite decent though.

10 Years was probably one of the better Eurovision tracks this year too :)

'Somebody Loves You' might not be the best introduction for The Snuts if you're not into light-and-breezy, a lot of their music is more punchy than this! Glad you're a fan of the others though - thanks Lewis!

A collaboration between my EOY #1 and #2 of 2016, you might well be expecting this to top my EOY with massive numbers, yet instead it limps in at #95. This could well be down to my tastes changing, and the song itself is very nice - an interesting take on 'Auld Lang Syne' - but for me a tad more originality would just have been nice for two bands who have bags of it. Oh well, it adds one to the impressively long chart histories of both!

I'm not sure this is the song I'd instantly get into, but something drew me to it at the start of the year and I just couldn't get away (at one point it was my most-played song of the year!) The song is a beautiful and free-flowing interpolation on the most famous psalm of them all, Psalm 23 (or 'the Lord is my shepherd'). It's miles away from a traditional hymn though, putting a lovely contemporary and yet calming spin on it.

Keane released two new singles in honour of Record Store Day (I think?); Dirt and Nothing To Something. Whilst Dirt was the song which hit me instantly, I removed it from my playlist fairly quickly and turned to the other song, Nothing To Something, which has continued to grow on me to this day. The way the song progresses is fantastic, slowly building up from the start to the end, and it only finally peaked in my chart a few weeks ago!

I'd look for new music from the intriguingly-named LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER for a while after his appearance in BJSC but had sort-of forgotten about him when my Niceland at 50 countdown prompted me to check whether he'd done anything new - and lo and behold, he had! This is a fantastic song, the synths and the lyrics work together to make what I can only describe as a 'crazy pop song'

I was slightly surprised to see this make my Top 100, but given it's my highest non-anniversary BJSC entry this year I thought I'd keep it in. I certainly enjoyed reading back the reaction to this on Discord with comments such as 'ah another Niceland country song... HANG ON' as it began to kick in. It's a really nice song and I don't think I've charted anything else like it this year!
