telepatía became a hit this year thanks to TikTok, but frustratingly stalled at that infamous #41. For me, not quite the case: it hit #1 and spent a decent length of time in the top ten. The song switches between English and Spanish and describes a long-distance relationship over a dreamy synth beat.

10. Wolf Alice - The Last Man on Earth

The Last Man on Earth may have only scraped the top ten, but it had huge longevity, lasting 12 weeks on my chart (a lot by my standards). It’s a beautiful song which I was initially disappointed by, expecting something more like Don’t Delete The Kisses or Bros. But it grew on me pretty quickly, and is one of my all-time favourite Wolf Alice songs now.

Torna a casa might be less intense than their winning ESC song, but it’s easy to see why Måneskin scored such a big hit with this in their native Italy. It’s a more classic rock song in a sense, with a chorus (“quindi Marlena torna a casa…”) that could easily fill a stadium on tour. It’s a shame their Italian-language material isn’t breaking through, because this is an absolute discography highlight.

Pasadena is an uptempo bop that celebrates living life. It was rumoured to sample Outkast’s Hey Ya, and I’m not entirely sure if it does or not, but there’s something similar in the production for sure, if not the most distinctive parts. It’s a great feel-good tune that absolutely smashed this year.

It might not be the most in-your-face banger of a song, but it’s still incredibly danceable.

That Kind Of Woman is the sort of smash most people could only wish for. Musically, it’s a midtempo tune where Dua sings about wanting someone without hesitation. It spent a single week on the chart last year courtesy of its Club Future Nostalgia remix, but re-entered in its original form at the start of this year. Its gentle 8-week descent through the top ten was at the time a record for the most weeks spent there, and in total it spent 15 weeks proving itself as a chart force.

And so we reach the top! Amoeba doesn’t scream “biggest song of the year”, but it is. It’s an understated, alternative-style song with quiet vocals and typical Jack Antonoff flairs, creating something really intriguing to listen to. Clairo’s album, Sling, is definitely worth a listen if you enjoy this, although this is the most upbeat (if you can call it that) track on it. It’s broken records as the first song to spend four weeks at #1 (now matched by MUNA’s Silk Chiffon) and the most weeks spent on the chart ever (surpassing BC Unidos & Carly Rae Jepsen’s Trouble in the Streets).

Interesting Måneskin choice in the top ten, it is a really good song. I quite liked That Kind Of Woman too. I must check out your top two, have saved them to my playlist of songs to check out!

 

Easy and Bruxelles je t'aime are my favourite songs in the top 20, always thought the former is very early 00s sounding.
