The results for the Kerrang! Readers' Poll for 2021 have been announced! Makes for quite interesting reading, though I'm not entirely convinced BMTH deserve Band of the Year this year, as they have only released 1 song and a few features/remixes (though their tour was apparently fantastic).

Not really a Keerang fan to be honest apart from Biffy Clyro don’t like that modern punk sound. Although love the old punk when it broke through!
There's not much punk/pop-punk there to be fair! Mainly metal/hard rock

Well that then :P

I thought that Architects album was pretty poorly received, huh. (looking it up I see it got reasonably good critical reviews but I'm sure I remember it at least being divisive among their fanbase)

It divided some of their older fans, but I think across their last couple of albums they’ve brought in a lot of new ones (myself included).

It’s the same with BMTH, they get loads of hate from fans of their first albums now, yet they’re still bigger than ever at the moment.

Solo Artist of the Year

5. Avril Lavigne

Really? She only had one solo song this year and a feature on MOD SUN's 'Flames' and a WILLOW track (that's kinda obscure though I think?)... Did I miss something?

But then, the readers did this, not Kerrang! itself.

'Flames' seemed to have a big moment on TikTok at the beginning of the year, being her first pop-punk song in years. That and the fact that there aren't really that many big solo artists in rock/metal music (in previous years that category has been filled with My Chemical Romance's various solo projects!)

I was personally still riding off the high of POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR with Bring Me The Horizon this year, so I can accept that as a good result. And 'Die4U' is quite a banger if a slight comedown from that.

Great to see BABYMETAL sneaking their way into a few places too.

A very typical and uninspiring selection from Kerrang!

But what the hell is going on in the new band category? Both Wargasm and Static Dress have been around for over 3 years. Spiritbox for about 5 and Orbit Culture nearly 10 years!!

Vended are the only really 'new' band on the list
