Track 2 - Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 (Single Version)

 I strongly associate this single with Christmas, it always sounds extra special at this time of year. Everything about this release was perfect! What a gorgeous music video, definitely one of my favourites from them. I most definitely had no idea that this song was about safe sex back in 1996!

I always think it's cool that they decided to be more inclusive by changing the "boys and girls" lyric - and also nice that Victoria was given a moment to shine in this song. Sometimes I wonder who it was who decided the lyric should be changed and if anything/anyone in particular prompted it. Because they must have had to arrange some studio time to record it and edit the song, in time for the music video shoot. Prior to the album's release I guess they didn't think there was any issue with the song as it was?

Being Christmas #1 definitely felt like a huge deal in those days, it felt like way more people cared about it than these days. It did it with such huge sales too, 462,000 sold in the first week... sensational!

2 Become 1 is my favourite single of the Girls bar none. Just amazing in every way!

I have to say I’m not really bothered as to whether I hear Geri’s or Victoria’s verse. Both are under used in the song. Would have preferred it stay like the demo and Victoria have Mel B’s section in the first verse!

Then Geri could have had the single edit vocals!

How sad that it is the beginning of the end with that 2 become 1 play… the beginning of their record… which ends tomorrow 😭

Track 3 - Spice Girls - Too Much (Album Version)

I decided we should hear the full length version for this party, and contribute to its streams on Spotify! Too Much takes me right back to the Spicemania madness of late 1997. Another stunning music video, to match a really classy song. I'm sure we've all attempted to belt out Melanie C's "I want a man, not a boy who thinks he can - boy who thinks he cannnnn!" Too Much's single artwork is one of my favourites too. The perfect package! Of course this was their 2nd Christmas #1, selling over a quarter of a million copies in one week in the UK. I was one of those copies - I had the cassette single! It was also their fourth and final Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit.

Too Much gets better with the year just like wine
Too much is just glorious my second fave spice girls ballad. I love the build up and then Mel Bs opening is just lush lush lush!

 A 23 year shared record between legends... good while it lasted!

Why don’t you all join my Steps listening parties when I host them Huns…

At least I joined up Light Up the World, which was certainly something I put my ears through x

My favourite Spiceworld single and I make no apologies for it! Absolutely love it. They haven’t managed to capture it live as well as the studio version though - although the same could be said for a number of their songs!

We pretend we do not see it.

Track 4 - Spice Girls - Goodbye (Album Version)

Here's the version of Goodbye that was shoehorned onto the end of the Forever album in 2000! It's only 12 seconds longer than the Radio Edit most of us would have heard back in 1998. Goodbye was their first single release without any vocals from Geri, but proved to be a massive success. The third Christmas #1 in a row tied them with The Beatles, and its 380,000 sales made it their second fastest selling single behind 2 Become 1. It fought off very strong competition from Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls. Geri would eventually become a part of this song, singing it with the girls on tours in 2007/8 and 2019.

Chocolate salty balls. What a time to be alive.

Goodbye - cute but not a fave of mine.

Goodbye was such a moment, really felt like they would never come down from the high they were on… alas it wasn’t to be! 😭
Goodbye is such an emotional ride

Track 5 - Spice Girls - Christmas Wrapping

I can't remember how long it took for me to realise that this song is actually just an Emma and Melanie C duet! Another fun Christmas cover, I enjoy the lyric changes to be more UK-centric. Tesco has provided me with the world's smallest turkey!
