But why didn't they just do it there and then, instead of have the Doctor waffle on for 5 minutes and wait for the next time loop?

What's shocking about Yaz is that, in real world terms, she's the longest serving companion in the shows history but she's only just becoming more than a blank canvas. Even Dan, who's been in the show for 5 minutes, has more development and personality already.

I'm not blaming the actress, she seems ok but the series has been on cruise control too often since series 10 and only just now showing signs of recovering

Introducing, effectively, four new characters (a new Doctor and three new companions) always seemed a strange idea. I can't help wondering whether they couldn't decide whether to go for a straightforward male/female team, albeit the other way round from every previous duo, or to continue with a woman as the "principal companion". Yaz was always the strongest of the original three companions for Whitaker's Doctor; the production team just seemed to lack the confidence to go the whole hog and have women in both leading roles.

My understanding was that they couldn't just make a plan to go to the other door in the next time loop because the Daleks would have anticipated it if they started planning that move, so they had to throw them off and throw a couple of random ones in before time was up?

I think the argument was that they needed to do it in the shortest time possible to prevent the Daleks catching up to them. If they had blown up the Daleks with minutes to spare, more would have arrived and got to them if they were in/outside the building and reset the loop. Obviously it's just hypothetical ifs and buts here and really we should just roll with whatever Doctor Who go with regardless of it making sense or not :kink:
