I was watching the Draper match on Amazon and you could tell when Serena won a point/game - the noise was insane!

British pair Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans began their US Open bids with routine wins over first-round opponents who could not cope with their level.

Seventh seed Norrie won the first set against Benoit Paire in 18 minutes before the Frenchman improved to make a contest of the second.

But Norrie ran away with the third when Paire's level dropped again to win 6-0 7-6 (7-1) 6-0 in sticky conditions.

Evans, seeded 20th, won 6-4 6-1 6-1 against Czech opponent Jiri Vesely.

Hopefully Emma Raducanu will come through her 1st round match with little issue

Emma out :( Was prepared for it to happen, given that she couldn't have opened against another seed I think Cornet was pretty much the worst possible draw she could've got.

Rybakina another round 1 upset as the current Wimbledon champion and a player who should really be top 10 off of it.

At least for the Brits, we had Murray, Draper, Evans and Norrie all through in straight sets.

oh no :/ and worst thing she's gonna have a gigantic fall in the rank, I read she'll fall minimum to#80 but could be even worse... cos basically she only did well at the US Open but nothing else

glad Nadal won even though he lost the first set, some difficulties for Sinner and Coric too

Doesn’t Harriet Dart become British #1 if she wins today?

Emma is only 19 and I hope people remember that. Once again though, this reminds me why Daley or Peaty were better winners of the SPOTY award

Ended Iga Swiatek's 37-match win streak at Wimbledon.

Ended Emma Raducanu's title defence at US Open in the first round.

Alize Cornet's 2022 Grand Slam season has seen some huge results

^ Beaten a Grand Slam champion in every slam this year, two at the AO on her way to her first QF! What a year for her so many years into her career.

Harriet Dart lost, I tuned into the second set where she got bageled and she was doing so bad. Pressure of being the new British #1? At least Emma still has something to hold onto now.

another great win for Serena against Kontaviet, who is #2 in the world although she plays at times like if she's #1002 :D

Sakari also out

A great win for Jack Draper

I’m gonna jinx it but he could get far if he carries on playing the way he has been

Yes, don't do to him what you did to poor Harriet :P

I'm conscious of the fact that in the fourth round he'd come up against an opponent who's beaten him in the past couple of months, but he lost to Ruusuvuori at Queen's and then beat him easily in the first round here, he's beaten some great opponents this year. Very impressed by his performance against FAA given he was a semi-finalist last year.

lol at Nadal injuring himself with his own racket on the nose and bleeding
Serena is out :/ thought she'd hold on for a bit longer

I did jinx it. Was heartbreaking watching him try to play though an injury. He’ll be back though

Also gutted that Serena never got that extra title to join (bigot) Margaret Court on the all time list

Matteo Berrettini secured his place in the US Open quarter-finals for a second successive year with a five-set win over unseeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Italian Berrettini, who reach the semi-finals in 2019, overcame the Spaniard 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 4-6 6-2 in New York.

Davidovich Fokina suffered a knee injury when trailing 4-2 in the fifth set and could not fight back.

Well done Caro. Keeping the straight set wins rolling. Only a second slam quarter final for her with the other being at her home slam over 5 years ago!
Medvedev out (as expected)
