Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska who escaped Russian bombings just over a week ago, fell short of a remarkable title victory at the Lyon Open after being beaten by Zhang Shuai in the final.

The 21-year-old, who arrived in Lyon last Saturday and spoke of being "woken up by bombs" when Russia invaded Ukraine three days earlier, was beaten 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the decider.

was watching Muguruza play last time, never seen anything like that

she won the first 9 games, 6-0, 3-0

then she makes an error, loses her focus

and loses 11 out of the next 12 games to give the game away 6-0, 3-6, 3-6

unbelievable :/

Yes, and Karolina Pliskova was 6-2 5-2 up in her match and ended up losing.

Also, a good win for Harriet Dart against Elina Svitolina. Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray won as well.

Its crazy how fragile some of these female players are mentally

Muguruza has been #1, she should be stringer mentally

on the other hand, Nadal is rather the opposite, was crazy to watch his game against Korda

Korda was playing incredibly well, Nadal had major issues with his serve doing lots of double faults

and Nadal was down 5-1 I think on the last set with Korda serving

and ended up winning!

I noticed Sabalenka lost again on the first round, has she won any games in 2022? how can she be top 3 in the world! Muguruza and Raducanu are not doing much better this 2022, crazy they're still so high on the rankings

Yeah well, Emma still hasn't had a full 12 months on the tour yet so has no points to drop off until Wimbledon comes round really. Shame she couldn't serve out her latest match but glad she got further this time.

Great to see Harriet Dart through to the fourth round now!

you're right but Raducanu, guess it's similar with Badosa and why she's so high

Emma will get there. Her opponent was playing well and Emma just needs more events like this to increase her exposure to other styles of play.

So great for Dart. I am hoping for a Nadal upset later, otherwise it’s all down to Norrie on the men’s side for GB players

Cameron Norrie has reached the last 16 at Indian Wells but fellow Briton Dan Evans was knocked out by Rafael Nadal.

Norrie, 26, beat 30-year-old Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6 6-3 6-1 in a repeat of the men's 2021 final.

Spaniard Nadal, 35, who has not lost in 2022, overcame 31-year-old Evans 7-5 6-3 as he secured a 17th straight win.

Russia's Daniil Medvedev was beaten in the last 32 by Gael Monfils and will lose his world number one ranking.

Norrie will play Jenson Brooksby in the fourth round after the 21-year-old American caused an upset by knocking out Stefanos Tsitsipas 1-6 6-3 6-2.

Did anyone watch Medvedev? Surprised he lost with Monfils, wonder if it was related to the Ukraine situation or if he genuinely lost. We also had very early exits from Zverev and Tsisipas.

Guess the Nadal domination is continuing, at least someone else has a chance in Miami :D

Here for it though if he can get back to #1 later in the year and unseat Djokovic for more than three weeks

too bad Nadal had health issues, was actually painful to watch

he should have stopped if he couldn't breathe :o

Apparently an issue with the official ATP rankings this morning where all points awarded from Indian Wells have been doubled!

Currently shows Fritz as jumping 12 places straight into the top 10 at #8!

wow at Swiantek being #2, she plays very well sometimes, but sometimes she makes so many errors she looks like the 1002 in the world instead

Sakkari always seems rather mediocre to me, doesn't really look like a worldwide top 3 when you see her playing

Yeah the women's final felt like such poor quality on Sunday, especially from Sakkari.

Swiatek going to be the next #1, Ashleigh Barty has announced she's retiring from professional tennis :o What a shocker as the reigning champion of two slams, I had to double check the date
