Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has left his native Ukraine to prepare for his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

 

Usyk, 35, has been helping to defend his country from the Russian invasion after enlisting in Ukraine's military.

Briton Josh Warrington says he has an opportunity "to be the man again" and reclaim his IBF featherweight title when he takes on Spain's Kiko Martinez in Leeds on Saturday.

 

The 31-year-old, who made three defences of the belt between 2018 and 2019, will be fighting in front of a home crowd at the First Direct Arena.

 

Warrington beat Martinez in a close points decision at the same venue in 2017, but is coming off a loss and a draw in his two previous fights.

Welsh boxer Lee Selby has hinted he could retire after losing by stoppage for the first time in his career at the hands of Gustavo Lemos in Argentina.

 

Selby was hoping for a chance to win a world title at lightweight, with this bout a final eliminator for the IBF lightweight title.

 

However, Selby, 34, was stopped in the fifth round by Lemos, who also floored the Welshman in the fourth round.

 

Lemos should now get a chance to fight champion George Kambosos Jr.

Josh Taylor vacated the WBA light-welterweight title after telling the authorities an upcoming wedding meant he could not defend the belt.

 

The WBA announced the Scot had been stripped of the crown - one of four belts he held - after failing to agree to fight Alberto Puello.

 

But Taylor, 31, said he had written a letter explaining his decision.

 

"I do not want to delay a fellow fighter from fulfilling his dreams. For that reason, I must vacate," he wrote.

 

The WBA had ordered Taylor to make a mandatory defence against Dominican Puello, who is unbeaten in 20 fights.

A fight against Savannah Marshall could rival the size of Katie Taylor's historic win over Amanda Serrano, says Claressa Shields.

 

Ireland's Taylor edged a split-decision victory over Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York earlier this month in a fight described as the biggest in women's boxing history.

 

America's Shields is set to face long-term rival Marshall in September.

Ben Whittaker will make his professional debut on the undercard of the Hughie Fury and Michael Hunter WBA world heavyweight title eliminator.

 

The Fury-Hunter fight is set for Saturday, 2 July in Manchester.

 

Whittaker, who won light-heavyweight silver at Tokyo 2020, signed with BOXXER last month and is the final member of the record-breaking Team GB Tokyo medallists to turn professional.

Anthony Joshua's rematch against Oleksandr Usyk is likely to be held on 20 August in the Middle East.

 

Ukrainian Usyk beat Joshua on points last year to claim the WBO, IBF and WBA (Super) titles.

 

A date of 23 July was pencilled in for the rematch but Usyk's promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk said they have been told to prepare for the later date.

Britain's Daniel Dubois won the WBA "regular" heavyweight title in Miami on Saturday with a stunning knockout victory against American Trevor Bryan.

 

Dubois, 24, claimed the 18th win of his career in impressive fashion, flooring his opponent in the fourth round.

 

Victory means Dubois edges closer to a shot at a major heavyweight title.

 

He is now the mandatory challenger to the winner of Anthony Joshua's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, which is due to take place later this summer.

 

"Now I can make some massive fights in the future," Dubois said. "I am so grateful for this moment.

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury said he will "100%" return to the boxing ring at some point and hinted he could be tempted to face the winner of the Anthony Joshua-Oleksandr Usyk fight for the right price.

 

The 33-year-old suggested he would retire after knocking out Dillian Whyte in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley in April to retain his title.

 

But on Tuesday he said he was planning for "something big" to happen.

Tommy Fury has been denied entry to the US before his scheduled press conference with Jake Paul on Wednesday.

 

The British boxer is due to fight YouTube star Paul on 6 August in New York.

 

But Fury revealed on social media he had been stopped by US authorities at Heathrow airport on Tuesday.

 

"I have no clue why they would not allow me to travel today and neither does any of my team or my lawyer," he said.
