Posted February 4, 20223 yr Hi all! This thread is for discussing all Bobsledding (and related events) at the Winter Olympics this year. This includes the following: Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge. Feel free to discuss all the ins and outs of the disciplines, any predictions you may have, support for the competitors and other remarks you may have as we kick off today!
February 5, 20223 yr Author The Luge got underway today! Johannes Ludwig holds the top spot at the moment, with Felix Loch (who went from winning to outside the Top 3 in a split-second in Pyeongchang) in fourth. Team GB's Rupert Staudinger is currently in 24th - he's wearing a specially-designed helmet to commemorate his late teammate AJ Rosen who died of cancer in December.
February 6, 20223 yr Rupert Staudinger finishes 23rd in the luge, which is another result above expectations
February 7, 20223 yr Author Focus now turns to the Women's Luge, which seems to have been quite eventful so far! Julia Taubitz set a track record in her first run but then crashed on the second - sliding the wrong way up on that ice must be pretty scary...
February 9, 20223 yr Author Natalie Geisenberger made history in the Luge being the third woman to win three Olympic titles in the sport! Elsa Desmond made a little bit of history as the first Irish woman to take part in the Luge.
February 11, 20223 yr Author Not looking good for the British Skeleton team - a real shame to see, although it seems as though the equipment isn't allowing them to do as well as we've been used to them doing.
February 12, 20223 yr Author And so there's a silver medal for Australia in the women's skeleton! Jaclyn Narracott is married to Team GB medallist Dom Parsons and lives in Bath - can we claim her?
February 14, 20223 yr Author Not a brilliant start for the men's bobsleigh as they finish the seocnd run in 11th - still two runs to pull it round though!
February 15, 20223 yr Author A clean sweep for Germany in the two-man bob - never been done before so quite the event! Britain suffered what seemed like a very scary incident in their third run when the bob tipped over.
February 16, 20223 yr A clean sweep for Germany in the two-man bob - never been done before so quite the event! Britain suffered what seemed like a very scary incident in their third run when the bob tipped over. They walked away unhurt and returned for the fourth heat where their second best run saw them finish in 11th place.
February 18, 20223 yr Author The women's bobsleigh event seems to be going similar to the men's - Britain sadly not doing too well, but Germany have the Top 2 after the second run! Montell Douglas has a very interesting background though by the sounds of it - not too many people switch from being an Olympic sprinter to being a winter Olympic bobsledder.
February 19, 20223 yr Mica McNeill said something went "drastically wrong" after a disappointing start to the two-woman bobsleigh left Great Britain out of contention with two heats remaining. McNeill and partner Montell Douglas currently sit 19th out of 20 pairs after the opening two heats.
February 19, 20223 yr Team GB are in medal contention in the four-man bobsleigh after Brad Hall's sled was sixth after the opening two runs at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Hall, who crashed in the two-man event, is 0.69 seconds off the lead, but less than one-third of a second off bronze. They have vowed to come out fighting on Sunday, the final day of competition at the Games. "Sixth overnight is a drastic improvement on 2018, we're pretty happy," Greg Cackett told BBC Sport. "But we're not stopping until the fourth heat ends so fingers crossed."
February 19, 20223 yr Author They're certainly doing pretty well in this final event! Certainly interesting given that there's been a lot of speculation regarding equipment when considering the results of the other British sliders - I wonder if there's something particularly different about the four-man bob?
