There are so many songs out there that not all of them can make the chart. I long since gave up on the idea of many of my favourite getting chart hits, but that makes it all the more special on the occasion that they do. Seeing the likes of Alec Benjamin and Conan Gray in the top 40 felt like something of a fever dream (especially now that Spotify have refused to actually support a single follow-up from either of them but that's another discussion x). Not to mention artists like Shawn Mendes and The Kid LAROI that I discover via the lower regions of the chart but jump on board with before most of the public do (Stitches and WITHOUT YOU had some of the most exciting chart journeys to follow in recent years, and their subsequent careers have continued to be ones I follow closely)
There's also just in general a lot of music that gets heard by a lot of people that doesn't get close to making the chart. It's not the fault of the public, nor is it a failure of the chart, it's just that in this age of easy access, people are listening to a wider range of music & sounds than ever before. When you coalesce all those plays together, you create a small collection of songs that consistently outperform everything else, but it's a mistake to say that this proves music listeners are more ignorant than ever before.
Apart from maybe Juice WRLD I don't think any of these new releases are ones that I'd have predicted to debut particularly high on Spotify tbh - Joel Corry and Mabel with their respective choices of collaborators from the same stale pool of like 10 artists (Bryson is a new one tbf x) will probably gain steam over time as per usual.

 

Is this the norm for these kind of songs? Need Mabel’s to do well so she can release her second album

Only one of Mabel's chart entries has ever peaked in its first week ('Cigarette' w/ RAYE and Stefflon Don), the rest have all taken at least 3 weeks, most of them longer than that.
