April 10, 20223 yr The most up to date actuals have Le Pen far closer than projections. With 34872 of 35080 domestic communes counted it’s 27.4% to Macron, 25.2% to Le Pen.
April 11, 20223 yr Author damn, as expected, but a choice between far-right and a president so ineffectual at doing things for the people it'll probably just lead to more far-right next time around even if he does win. the overseas territories are swinging HARD for Melenchon but those and some Parisian departments are about the only ones he's ahead in, he's going to fall short.

April 24, 20223 yr Author Yeah, good for Macron that he won, he needs to spend the next 5 years doing his utmost to work for the people of France so that the centre and left of France aren't facing another far-right monster in 5 years time but I won't be holding my breath. c.f. what almost a third of the country who voted for their president think of him - this is not how democracies can operate long-term: hope Mélenchon's party smashes it in the legislative elections
April 24, 20223 yr A sigh of relief for now that France wasn't stupid enough to elect a blatant Putin puppet in the middle of the Ukraine invasion - I did think Macron would probably be fine here but some of the polls were quite alarming, thankful that it has ended up being a wider margin than some predicted but that's still a concerning increase in vote share for Le Pen against the same opponent since 2017. (I understand people being unenthusiastic about supporting Macron but they had their chance to get a better opponent in the first round, so close for Mélenchon, I expect Macron would have won against him in the second round as well but it would have been refreshing to see him actually make the second round)
April 25, 20223 yr Le Pen had softened her image too from last time including being less anti EU and trying to woo the left with many policies. She still lost badly. Macron is the first President to be elected again in 20 years as well. Unlike the shitshow that is our Tory government, the French are doing ok. Edited April 25, 20223 yr by Smint
April 25, 20223 yr I really don’t like Macron and there was a part of me hoping Le Pen would win to be honest although her connections to Moscow were concerning.
May 5, 20223 yr Author good news for June's parliamentary elections, the Socialist Party have joined a broad left alliance to take on Macron for the parliament, which means a united left alliance, feels like far too long since one of those was anywhere. https://amp.france24.com/en/europe/20220504...-take-on-macron
