:hi: Hello Pop Forum, it has been a while!

The Pop Forum Song Contest has been on my mind lately and I think its time to do the dreaded 'should we continue' thread. As the majority of you know, I stepped away from my role as Pop Mod after moderating the forum for the best part of 6 years (I think). Management have been kind enough to let me keep my expanded inbox and a few moderator powers across the site so that I can bring you events such as the much loved Pop Forum Song Contest.

Although popular, the contest has taken a bit of a tumble over the last few editions. Finding hosts for the contest is proving difficult and in all honesty, I feel that I am a bit lost with it all. As the winner of the last edition, I find it very hard to host events on Buzzjack now given work commitments. I hoped to host PFSC last October and even went through a few hosts to try and get it up and running. Some replied with their apologies, others completely ignored my multiple messages and then we had a host who was meant to open the contest but never did. :surejan: I am at that stage where I wonder if there is any point putting the effort in when the interest has dwindled?

Please let me know your thoughts and any ideas for the questions at the top of this post. I would love to maybe have a list of posters who would be keen to post. This would mean that I had a go to list of people for the contest.

Thanks for reading!

Cameron :michelle:

I’ve only done two and the last one was the most recent. I’d love the chance to do one again!

I would really love to see the contest continue! This is one of the few contests that I could send pop songs (PopJustice needs to start registering new users again!). Last contest was very fun to host on behalf and it's the first taster of how hosts organise a contest and I learned a lot there. I don't think the contest has any major flaws but surely it's good to have a solution when the winner seems to be uninterested in hosting. I would be up to host again if need be but certainly would love to see another one hosting!

Hey Cameron, and by extension all other Pop fans who’ve entered PFSC before…

As the former host of PFSC VII, I had the best experience of hosting because it was my first hosted contest on BuzzJack, and although I was rather anxious, I had a brilliant mentor in the form of Cameron who guided me and supported me throughout the process so I could gain experience and confidence at delivering a positive and high quality event on the forum. I have hosted other contests since then (the Movie Forum Song Contest comes to mind), and I’d be willing to host PFSC again with the experience little I’ve gained. ^_^

I definitely want to see this contest continue, it’s different to Club Bizarre obviously for the genre, and it’s more open to pop fans who want to explore new and unknown artists perhaps.

The one perhaps concern I *MAY* have, is that some of the themes that the contest runs to can be restrictive at times, but it’s not something I think should be done away with, because it’s good to challenge people and explore new fields of pop music, but maybe from time to time we could just have a “free choice” contest, subject to the standard veto rules of course.

As things stand, I’ll never be allowed to host any contest in BJSC, so to allow for hosts that do, feel free to call on me more often, even if it’s once every couple of years or however often these contests are run for. It’s my understanding that CB runs 4 times a year, but that’s not what I would expect to see for PFSC, but 2 or 3 times a year would be great!

I would really like to see it continue if possible, it's really nice having all the genre forums have their own contest (well except Hip Hop :kink:) and we could reduce it to just a couple of editions a year, saying that I certainly wouldn't want anyone to feel pressured to keep it if it's too time-consuming and there's not enough interest.

I'm also fine with just asking for hosts/ideas if the winners or runners up can't commit to it. A lot of the main institutions /contests on the forum should be member-driven and if someone has a desire to do something, then they should go for it.

Also, if I may ask a direct question to you Cameron… are you looking for a volunteer to host the next PFSC as things stand or is this something you want to do soon? At least if we all know you need that support we can decide between us who to suggest hosts the next one in the near future.

I think sticking to the 3 contests a year is what I want to continue to do. I did ask the host who has had 6 months to open the contest if they are still interested but gained no reply. I will happily let anyone who volunteers to host the next edition open it. 😊 Glad to see interest is still there!
I am happy to host this time for you Cam, you’ve already done so much in trying to get support for this and I appreciate your enthusiasm too of course. If it’s ok I’ll wait until the current two contests have passed. That’s Club Bizarre 19 and Masquerade III. To encourage as much open participation as possible I’ll have it as a free choice without any set theme. Perhaps in a week or two we can get it started. :)
  • 2 weeks later...
I think host should fall to those who want to do it, as otherwise it's unfair on those of us who never ever win due to RAMPANT Beaverdoniaism.
