^Sorry but you couldn't be more wrong. If you release midweek and you chart at #90 it counts as week 1 already so you lose a week for ACR purposes, so in your example, Bruno would have had an extra week before being hit by ACR

But what does it matter if it jumps to no1 on week 2/3/4 it’s still a massive hit with a long chart run which is what the point of the poster was - day of release doesn’t matter much these days. If it was gonna be a flop it will be and if it’s gonna be a hit it’ll be. Yes a Friday release might mean a song that was gonna always be a flop for example Megan/Dua peaks in the top 40 but then falls straight away.

I don’t know why there’s such a debate for a song that is pretty likely to peak in week 1 of course it’s a dumb move chart-wise to release it midweek, I have the same frustration with Madonna (who 100% would peak in week 1!)

The only way it'd be 'likely to peak in week 1' in any meaningful way is if it's not going to be a particularly big hit anyway. Beyoncé is decades past the point of needing to prove herself chartwise, it really and truly does not matter in the slightest what day she releases on, I am amazed there's any debate in the other direction. But whatever.

I don't think it's currently looking like it would have debuted at #1 anyway, it's still 'only' #5 on Apple.

I really think the only scenario in which it's still worth making a fuss over midweek releases is for UK-specific niche artists for whom the difference is whether the song maybe gets one week in the top 40/100 or not. Other than that, hits will be hits and flops will be flops regardless of what day they drop. I guarantee you Beyoncé could not give the slightest shit about having very marginally less success in the UK because of her release date.

i'm expecting Beyoncé to be a big streaming force this era. I think the fact she hasn't done a traditional solo lead single release across all platforms pretty much at all during the streaming era has skewed people's perception of how much of a chart force she is.

We know this but we can still say it would’ve been better to release on a Friday for a full week’s sales. This is a chart forum after all? Nobody is trying to manage Beyoncé’s career or attack her. There’s the exact same debate EVERY time this happens with an artist like Beyoncé, I’d find it slightly annoying no matter who it was lol. I did think she wanted to do a more traditional roll-out this time by announcing the album this far in advance but I guess not.

Saying it would have been better to release on Friday is one thing but saying it's "stupid" to release midweek is quite another thing.

That’s being a bit pedantic

In fairness the premise of this argument is the very minor difference between releasing on a Tuesday vs. a Friday, everyone is pedantic here xx
I enjoyed it more when we were all arguing whether the female pop stars albums are considered dance releases in comparison to male artists like Drake releasing dance albums, earlier in the week! That’s the real injustice in this chart week!!

Yes, and in a thread where people discuss which songs have shifted 2 or 3 places on a daily chart - who woulda thunk it?

Edited by Jessie Where

Didn't Westlife lose top 10 with Hello My Love by releasing on Thu instead of Fri

and would have been top 10 with the added iTunes sales from that Thu they lost?

does AM have significant streams (market share) in UK?

Not very much, we saw it on Harrys album release week, 2/3 of his streams came from Spotify

so Apple together with Amazon and all the other ones would be 1/3, as in, not a lot

We also see it every other week in singles, a song goes top 10 on Apple and doesn't even make the top 40 come Friday

if you release midweek you get more visibility, but it costs you in terms of chart position,

Kylie doesn't care cos she's far beyond the point of having hit singles

If you're gonna have a big hit, it doesn't really matter

except you throw a week away for ACR counts, let's not pretend we don't care when half the forum is obsessed with SCR/ACR

Didn't Kylie release her all singles from Disco on Wednesday or Thursday for no reason? Can't remember...

I think that's something BMG do for all their artists now.

There are both pros and cons of midweek releases, why don't we just all agree on that and move on?
