Posted December 19, 200619 yr Leona topping midweek chart on downloads alone Source: Music week X-Factor winner Leona Lewis has made the expected big splash in the singles market this week, and is already on course for the Christmas Number One spot despite her debut single not getting physically released until Wednesday. A Moment Like This was made available for download through X-Factor’s website soon after she was unveiled as the competition winner on Saturday evening, and has since been comfortably outselling the current number one - Take That’s Patience - by a margin of more than six copies to one. Last year, Shayne Ward’s That’s My Goal sold 742,000 physical copies in just four days to reach number one. With downloads now contributing to chart placings, Lewis can be expected to get close to that sales figure this week, and could become the year’s biggest seller by December 31. Trailing far behind Lewis in the singles chart, McFly are poised rise into the top ten with Sorry’s Not Good Enough (Island), as are Girls Aloud with I Think We’re Alone Now (Fascination). The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s perennial Yuletide favourite Fairytale Of New York is expected to be in the Christmas Top Ten rundown for the third time alongside Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You - although Carey’s track will be ineligible for the chart due to no physical format currently being available. In the albums market, Take That are continuing to dominate proceedings after selling close to 100,000 copies of Beautiful World in just two days, with Westlife, Oasis, U2 and Il Divo looking likely to make up the remainder of the top five. December 19, 200619 yr Surely there must be some rule that excludes overly-hyped singles from the chart. It must be counted as chart-rigging? I'm ignoring any mention of X-F****R from this topic. Edited December 19, 200619 yr by Brutarn
December 19, 200619 yr Leona will imo sell 1,000,000. I believe she will be number one today with downloads only (if they can). Im just hoping Girls Aloud are top 10! in both charts!
December 19, 200619 yr Yup no big surprise for Leona... I'm soooo stressed for GA though... fingers crossed for their 14th top10, they just can't miss it  That's one of the midweeks I will have waited for the most impatiently!!
December 19, 200619 yr Well I will miss these! But I'll be listening on Christmas Eve - it's obvious she'll sell a million and her as an artist deserves it but the song is very poor now I've been listening to it lots. :( I suspect Take That/McFly/Girls Aloud will be #2,3,4. With sales so low last week the last two should easily be top 5. In the albums Take That obviously though Westlife could take #2 from Oasis :puke: They weren't that far behind last week.
December 19, 200619 yr I miss the days when there was suspense and huge competition over who would be christmas number 1. Now it's predictable and sad. :( Top of the pops coming back to announce the christmas number 1 and it won't even serve much purpose as everyone already knows it's going to be leona. :puke2:
December 19, 200619 yr no doubt Leona, is going to be number 1! but i hope Girls Aloud are number 2, i seriously doubt it though -_-

December 19, 200619 yr Boooo for Leona, she doesnt deserve to be #1 this week let alone #1 of the year. Arent the Pogues supposed to be booted off the chart this week?
December 19, 200619 yr Trailing far behind Lewis in the singles chart, McFly are poised rise into the top ten with Sorry’s Not Good Enough (Island), as are Girls Aloud with I Think We’re Alone Now (Fascination). They mean that sales of McFly and GA are far behind (that wouldn't be a suprise) or that they're charting far behind (low top10)?? Woulda appreciated a position.... Good news though, hope GA can hold on...
December 19, 200619 yr Boooo for Leona, she doesnt deserve to be #1 this week let alone #1 of the year. Arent the Pogues supposed to be booted off the chart this week? It's 53 weeks...
