It's 2 weeks on top for Moby as Bob Moses gets so close to grabbing a number one - but I saw ABBA's Voyage this weekend so there will be an ABBA and Olivia Newton-John invasion next week. It will be one or the other topping the chart.

 

Bananarama get a hat-trick of top 10's as they continue to do the biz 40 years on, and Sparks do the biz 48 years on with a track over 20 years old as they close on 20 top 10's. This week we lost Judith Durham of The Seekers, I went to see them on their last tour and it brought back so many childhood memories of songs I loved. The Carnival Is Over was my Greatest Hits choice from their last charting album to support the tour in 2009, and it remains the most poignant of their back catalogue, but other 60's goodies that I loved or liked at the time chart lower down, notably Georgie Girl, the theme song to the film which I still remember watching in the RAF Families Club in 1969, in tropical equatorial Singapore. The building over-looked the RAF Changi airfield and the film starred the fab Lynn Redgrave - but most of the kids there were bored by it and as usual were hyperactive while the grown-ups chatted and ignored the hordes. It was hot. We only had ceiling fans spinning about. Happy days!

 

P!nk meanwhile proves she's not Irrelevant as she gets a bit peeved with the US judges and society in general, Kilotile remixes Solomon Burke's Cry To Me which charted in 2019 60-odd years late. The video features The Addams Family, Mr. Ed (The Talking Horse), The Dick Van Dyke Show and other 60's sitcoms I loved as a kid. Birdy returns with her 7th charter in 11 years, ODESZA get a second on the rundown, and a trio of veteran female singer-songwriters return with a collab, Humankind: That's Beverley Craven, 30 years on from debuting with Promise Me and absent over 25 years; Judie Tzuke (who charted with the song in 2012) 43 years on from debut Stay With Me Till Dawn; and Julia Fordham 34 years on from Happy Ever After.

Free yourself is struggling here i see. It's a good song but I wouldn't say it's clicked with me in any particular way. I was hoping the video would help but it's all very standard I think.

Better late than never with Sia, I also didnt chart it and am very late :lol: I agree about Free Yourself, sounds nice initially but doesn't actually grow that much beyond that. Hypnotised is a catchy 'un so kudos for early spotting it. Fraid beyonce has also peaked for me, love the beats but it's melody that grabs me most. She's got a new one in the chart though :lol:

 

Irrelevant took a few plays to register and I like 2 die 4, but I bought Popcorn when I was 14 so that tune prob not as fresh to me as it is to others (and I've been playing it a lot lately, the original) :o :)

Thanks for the Netherlands chart facts re Seekers/New Seekers. I always preferred the New Seekers too (they had 3 number ones in my personal charts of 1971/72) but I've come back to the Seekers too as Ive aged and become very nostalgic for kiddie faves :D

Hi AH! :) OK ta, hope you good! I'm afraid new songs lyrics just dont stick in my brain anymore, it's very frustrating! I think the best shot at a recent song I could sing most of the lyrics to would be Watermelon Sugar :lol: But I'd prefer a Karaoke screen in front of me with the lyrics on it if it were public, just to be sure :lol:

 

Oops, right about Sparks plummeting down, though to be fair everything plummeted down this week thanks to Abba & ONJ :D

 

Glad you like First Choice, that reminds me...Armed & Extremely Dangerous might make a good BJSC oldie, it's virtually unknown these days :) And you get your Fotonovela wish, even with the Abba invasion above it, otherwise it would be comfortably top 20 this week.
