The Fame is among the most popular studio albums in the UK and currently only three older studio albums are charting higher than The Fame which is certified 10 times platinum. Add her other gigantic hits to that, I would assume that if she released a greatest hits album, it would be constantly in top 20. But do we want one and if so, when? Let's discuss!

I’m torn here! There’s artists who’ve been around since before Gaga who haven’t had one yet, like Beyoncé and Rihanna both haven’t released one and I imagine they have strong catalogue sales from streaming from their catalogue. We know with The Fame here that The Fame Monster combined with that which is why it streams so highly (which is great for its chart run stats and sales here). Also with Gaga, A Star Is Born I believe is amongst her most streamed works here and that would’ve probably also surpassed 100 weeks on the top 100 if not more had that rule change not happened.

I feel like Greatest Hits albums these days have long chart runs (I’m looking at The Weeknd and Little Mix as examples) so it would be great to get a Gaga one at some point, I just don’t know when I’d time it. I think I’d want another studio album first and then maybe release the Greatest Hits around the time she turns 40.

With Gaga though, because she’s a female artist with a strong stan base they should capitalise on the demand there would be for a Greatest Hits album and do multiple formats, different artworks etc and some new material on there (and maybe some stuff from the vault). I think a Greatest Hits album from her would have a great chart run here but I don’t think I’d push for one right now.

I’ve felt for a while that Greatest Hits albums should be moved to the compilation chart the way that Soundtrack albums were moved but if Gaga released one I’d want it to chart on the main chart for as long as possible

I don't *need* a GH from her as long as she is capable of doing well with studio albums. I think The Weeknd released his GH way too soon as he is still very popular with his studio albums. Yes, it is currently #5 on chart but it also gives kind of a nostalgia act vibe to me.

Maybe if Gaga announces a hiatus of a sort at some point she could release a GH?

I've voted no for now. I think we could possibly warrant one to celebrate 20 years in the business so around 2028/2029! By then we could have a few more studio albums and hit singles.

I don't think she needs one yet as, like Sour Candy said, her studio albums are back to being chart smashes. Chromatica and A Star is Born have proved that she is nearing the top of her game again and I want her to continue striking while this iron is hot.

I don't mean this to be shady, because I love her, but just based on her current career projectory, I think Katy Perry is the sort of artist that could really benefit from a greatest hits release. It would remind people of why they loved her and showcase her huge number of smashes while also turning public thoughts around to being more appreciative of her and her music. Gaga is in very good favours currently with critics and the general public it seems so I think she should wait until she "needs" it a bit more.

(Saying all of that, if she releases it, I would buy every single edition and stream it forevermore xx)

Some interesting points here so far.

I can see what you mean Haus about Gaga not necessarily needing one right now (maybes The Weeknd didn’t either) but I was thinking and Britney released a Greatest Hits when she was still huge and wasn’t Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection released during a time where she was a global icon at her peak? Maybe times were different during those releases though, females wise P!nk was still huge when she released hers too (and then had another huge era directly after that was released too).

These days I feel like Greatest Hits albums are more for a long chart run type of purpose but they aren’t promoted the way they used to be. I think when Gaga does do one it will be a big success though but I’d say at least one more studio album should be released first.

All good examples! I do think the market for Greatest Hits is slightly different now in the streaming era but your examples do show they aren't endgame for artists. It would have the potential to be an eternal chart presence too... but would it take sales away from their respective albums like The Fame wouldn't chart anymore?

I’d say no for now.

Personally I see greatest hits now as either the end of a career or when the artist popularity is dwindling and to get people back on board, with Chromatica being so big and gaining another #1 single for her I don’t think she’s in need of it just yet

The dream schedule.

Oh WOW that really is a dream schedule. We can but pray.

The only thing on that, that is a definite not going to happen is the heavy touring schedule because her body will not be able to cope with it. Such a shame though, I'd love this to be true :'(

I don't think that's heavy touring, it would only be 10 shows a month, which she would be able to pull off easily. She's doing 7 shows a month on the Chromatica Stadium Tour and remember that Live Nation's president said they just didn't add more shows because she's filming Joker 2 later in the year, the tour would have a lot more dates if she wasn't fully booked for the end of the year.

Fogel says his only disappointment so far is “that we don’t have more time to add more shows,” based on Lady Gaga’s busy schedule in 2022.

https://www.billboard.com/pro/lady-gaga-chr...-million-gross/

That's fair. They probably can't add tour dates after Joker 2 because they probably don't have an idea as to how long filming will take?

ASIB and House of Gucci were shot in 2 months and Joker was shot in 3 months, so I assume Joker 2 will be shot in 3 months max like the first one.

The reason they won't add new shows to the tour is because Gaga will likely start a new era before next summer as she is using her free time between shows to travel on a studio bus to record LG7 as she did during the Monster Ball Tour to record BTW and during BTWB to record ARTPOP. She must think Chromatica will be too old to have its tour extended, but I think that's unfair to fans who won't be able to witness her best tour to date plus she is again ignoring her other key markets.

20 shows after filming Joker 2 would be the best way to end the era.

It doesn't have physicals backing it up does it (and it's missing Va Va Voom, which is in her top 3 x). But that is a fair comparison to Gaga. Although her big 3 Fame singles + Shallow must be outdoing most of Nicki's hits so they'd probably carry the album?
Gaga has more than enough material to release a greatest hits. It could be spread over 2 CDs.
