Claire has a label behind her which makes a difference. However since Mel last released the multi format thing has gone to another level. The cheap multiple cassettes and signing everything. The midweek massive price cuts (though this might be more difficult for Mel as it is her own money). The store exclusive extended digital editions released midweek.

There is defo more she can take advantage of now to get a higher chart position.

The last album was so strong and the goodwill pushed it. #8 was huge for her.

She can easily achieve a bit higher, alternate CDs with different artwork, signed editions, personalised editions, digital options etc.

Well, I'd like to see longevity to be honest. Just one week in the top 100 is the target for a lot of artists like Melanie, Claire, Natalie Imbruglia...

To potentially get longevity she would have to go completely left field and do something completely new that no one would think of when thinking of Melanie C.

As much as most of her music isn't for me Kylie has had the balls to do that seemingly with her latest album. She was very much stuck in safe Kylie zone for the last few albums but the gamble is defo paying off with the change.

I think Claire is indie.

I think Claire is indie.

Her album is released through Demon Music Group. It's not her own label.

It’s #1 in the Independent Albums chart!

Having your own label ≠ being on an independent label.

Adele used to be #1 on the indie charts.

XL was indie.

I'm aware of that.

I responded to Babyboy's comment that said "Claire is indie" as if to suggest that she does not have a label backing her.

I thought we were talking about a major. She was under Sony for her first album, so she had a label behind her.

An indie one is limited as for budget.

So that means Claire did very well charting at #2 without a major.

XL was indie.

Yes but my point is that being just on an 'indie' label means very little, XL were throwing millions behind Adele for 21.

Were they though? Her music videos were quite basic. I’d say the budget notably increased for 25.

Despite Claire having a label backing there was only 116 copies difference between Melanie C and Euphoria first week sales. If Melanie can manage similar first week again, she could actually have a shot at #1 in the right week! Could you imagine, a solo spice #1 album it would be unreal (and out of the top 100 the following week lol)

there was only 116 copies difference between Melanie C and Euphoria first week sales.

Not quite. Euphoria sold 9,857 copies in its first week.

Oops my mistake there was 2000 copies difference  lets just aim for top 10 again
