Later this month The 1975 will release new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language. In interviews the band's always engaging frontman Matty Healy has been bigging this record up as their most romantic and earnest to date, telling the New York Times: “Love, loss, addiction. That’s what I always do. Every other record has been a bit like, ‘Love! And me! And this! And that!’ I think Being Funny is the first time where I’m a bit like, ‘OK, right, love. Let’s do love.'”

The band's promotional duties brought them to BBC Radio 1 earlier today and it seems that writing about love remains on the band's mind as they picked their mandatory cover version. Delving back to 1992 they landed on Take That's "A Million Love Songs," a smash hit for the British boyband and written by Gary Barlow about trying to write the perfect love song. That level of meta-text ("A million love songs later. And here I am trying to tell you that I care") unsurprisingly appeals to Healy, as presumably do the heart-on-sleeve nature of the words. Check out The 1975's take below.

To begin, The 1975 played their recent single ‘I’m In Love With You’. For the band’s version of ‘A Million Love Songs’, Healy’s vocals were accompanied only by a delicate piano arrangement.

“It’s funny that, isn’t it?” Healy said when asked about ’75’s choice of cover. “I’d have loved to have done something like what you’d normally do… like a Taylor Swift [song]or a Harry Styles or a Ariana Grande or someone like that – someone who’s really happening right now.

“But I think the only song that I’d heard in ages where I thought, ‘You know what? If Donny Hathaway had said that, or Al Green had said that…’. I’d be like, ‘Woah – that’s really legit.

“Not to shade Gary Barlow; I love Gary Barlow as a songwriter. But that song’s like my life – that’s all I do, is write love songs and I’m still here like the rest of us… still trying to figure it out.”

I always like The 1975, especially their second LP :)

Still believe in them as one of the most talented band nowadays so good luck to them with a new album.

Regarding this cover, I'm not so excited but I'm not a big fan of the original as well.

I like this new video, it reminds me Anton Corbijn's clips for Depeche Mode, Bryan, U2 a lot.

I never heard of the band , Matty Healy sounds very Irish, then I read his Mum is Denise Welch ( British actress )

I actually liked the original version by TT , probably within my top 5 TT songs . Some of the lyrics he didn't really sing as such , more talked his way through :)

No-no!

There are not covers!

They are original songs.

Just wanted to say they are choosing different styles.
