October 30, 20222 yr The Rihanna vs. Lady Gaga Oscar Race We Deserve Rihanna’s new single from the Wakanda Forever soundtrack adds another jolt of starpower to the best original song Oscar race. For months Lady Gaga has sat securely on her perch— or airplane, if you will— at the head of the best original song Oscar race, with her song “Hold My Hand” perhaps the single best opportunity to hand an award to the year’s box office juggernaut Top Gun: Maverick. Sure, there are other musical superstars in the hunt and a handful of spectacular song and dance sequences to consider, but who was really going to go toe-to-toe with the combined power of Gaga and a billion dollars? And now, enter Rihanna. The multihyphenate icon, who hasn’t released new music since 2016, will have the lead single on the soundtrack for Wakanda Forever, with the song “Lift Me Up,” co-written by Tems, composer Ludwig Göransson, and Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler. The song was written “as a tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman,” according to the press release. It will be released on Friday, October 28, two weeks ahead of the film’s November 11 release. Any new music from Rihanna would be attention-getting, obviously, but the Black Panther franchise has a strong track record, too; the soundtrack for the first film held the top spot on the Billboard 200 in early 2018, and Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” was a best original song Oscar nominee. It lost, as it turns out, to Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born’s “Shallow.” But Rihanna has an extra special advantage this time around—she’ll be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show on February 12, the day before this year’s Oscar nominations will be announced. Now do you see why this will be such a fun race to follow? https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/1...da-forever-song Really looking forward to this!!!
