I guess it was nice to get the extended Step to me for completion sake but I could have lived without it. Interesting how the 3 versions are pretty different from each other though.

More Step to Me! Feels a biiiit like padding out the track list at this point, though I appreciate the additional elements. An interesting choice to put this on the vinyl rather than the 7" mix though.

It's kind of samey for this Party Mix to begin with a remix we only heard a little earlier on in the track list!
I do like the party mix. I get they put Wannabe in there for example. I mean should it have been a SW track remix only or a GH type mix?

I feel like with this Party Mix you may as well just queue up the tracks individually and listen to them back to back  It's not like the transitions are anything special.

Thank you for hosting, Jay

Let's keep streaming this week, even if we leave it playing with headphones plugged in or in the background :D

Also there's plenty of places to download the album so tell all your friends :D

You're welcome! Thank you all for joining this listening party, I hope you enjoyed yourselves

I'm all Spiced out! The Morales remix of Who Do You Think You Are is one of their best, I truly wish an edited version of it was on streaming. The time for that was Spice 25, but alas...

OK HERE WE GO GIRLIES I FINALLY GOT TO DO IT!!

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE

RingedMarriedChupacabra-size_restricted.gif

First of all!! What an absolute classic  Perfect pop that got us all on our feet and dancing! Love it, will forever love it. It is probably the most pop positive song ever lol

One day I hope they change that awful lyric but the sentiment of the song still prevails despite it :teresa:

STOP

giphy.gif

Forever iconic. A song that is such a classic, it's main choreography is known the world over, at the level of the Macarena :cheer:

It's a gorgeous song, perfect motown pop and a bundle of JOY!! This is the Spice Girls at their best. They really had it all didn't they? They went from punk pop with Wannabe to the perfect pop banger of Stop. What a song!!

Also, the video is a bit dark in my opinion. It just screams Cool Britannia in many ways  But it is iconic!

TOO MUCH

3bfd19fc4746b73c4745b3756e3ac1a0.gif

A perfect song for a perfect moment. They were on TOP OF THE WORLD and released this soft and sleek ballad. What a moment it was

To launch it with the Movie was incredible, and it suited the over the top of their career a that moment to a tea. They all sound gorgeous in it, and it is so cleverly written, probably one of their best lyric. The Emma-led chorus with Mel C's ad libs over it just killed me, I swear. I am talking to you from the Mr.X grave -_-

SATURDAY NIGHT DIVAS

hqdefault.jpg

Cool, sleek, gorgeous, sensual. I love this and always have :cheer: They did it so well at Istanbul, it is a CRIME they havent done it since  I really hope it comes back one day, maybe in a medley with Something Kinda Funny? God knows that one needs a bit of a mix for the next tour

ANYWAY it is a 10 for me. They sound like heaven in it as well.

NEVER GIVE UP ON THE GOOD TIMES

maxresdefault.jpg

I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH :w00t: I remember falling in love with it from the moment Iheard it on my old player  It's such a BOP, a perfect song that should have been a single back then. It would have been PERFECT to end the tour with a single release of this song, moving on from Geri's departure in a POSITIVE LIGHT!!! :cheer: :cheer:

Imagine!! It would have been such a moment in like September 1998, to coincide with the Sheffield and Wembley stadium shows. What a gorgeous moment it would have been :teresa:

Anyway, I bop everytime! The Extended mix is even better, in my opinion!! Love it love it!

MOVE OVER

b49ef37855dbb5610c38a944b24cda52d1da3166.gif

A perfect incapsulation of their status in the world at the time. For me, this is Perfect Spice as a song, I love it. The energy is so contagious, the rock vibe suits them TO A TEA!! I wish they would bring it back to the next tour, together with Step To Me. GET YOUR ROCK ON GIRLS!!

MOVE OVER! YEAH! DON'T DO IT OVER!! :cheer:

Just listening to it though, I realise that Victoria isn't much in it, is she?... Maybe if they girls come back without her, they can do more songs like this? I WOULD LOVE THEM TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS :w00t:

A bop.

DO IT

It is what it is. I hate it, but I understand why it exists in Spiceworld. For me, it is one of their worst. I like the verses, and Bunton & Mel B sound HEAVEN on the bridge but the chorus is so vaccus, it never recovers for me... ANYWAY...

DENYING

I love it so so so much  This to me is just perfect, sleek and really clever writing, and they all sound gorgeous in it

BE A FOOL TO YOURSELF FOREVER MORE :cheer:

Just realising that Mel B pretty much leads on the song. The chorus is mainly her with the others coming in to back her up. And she is all over the harmonies everywhere, the breakdown, and a full verse. Love that for her

VIVA FOREVER

spice-girls-viva-forever.gif

The best song ever written by a girlband. I'm sorry but this is just facts and there's no debate :teresa:

Viva Forever is a classic, it sounds like the end of Summer to me, and it is just stunningly written. They give us a story, the longing to celebrate a love that was never going to last (but should be remembered and treasured). And that's just gorgeous to me.

From the opening, cinematic into that leads into the gorgeous guitars and Bunton opening the first verse like a fairytale opening in front of our eyes. So nice and sooting to the ear. This is them at their absolute best and confident. I LOVE it on tour. Everytime, it is just always perfectly done.

The Mel's final moments in the Wembley 98' tour will forever be iconic in the fandom. What a moment!

They all sound stunning, stunning, stunning. Victoria & Emma's verse is perfect too, so well done.

Gosh this song shoud be #1 at least once a year, it is that good.

THE LADY IS A VAMP

I know this is Gerita's song, and I still like it a lot, but it never fully clicked with me, honestly. I bop and it is cute and all, but it is somewhat innessential to me. Step To Me should have finished the album!!

i-said-what-i-said-nene-leakes.gif

STEP TO ME

I LOVE IT and I am so so so glad it is finally on streaming. What a moment! What a song!! Lyrically, sometimes is a bit iffy (Geri's "but you and me belong to me and you, 'Cause honesty's so hard to find" moment was always a bit clunky to me!) but overall, it is POWER!!

And it gave us some of their best performances, from the Spiceworld tour, to the Istanbul show, to the Christmas in Spiceworld Tour, to that iconic TV performance

Also, I know I said it earlier, but I will forever think it should have been in the main album instead of The Lady is a Vamp, or at least as track #11 :teresa:

OUTER SPACE GIRLS

This never did it for me... Like, I get it and I get why they would try something like this, almost Backstreet Boys-like type of self-reflecting pop bop. And it is a bop, but I don't think it is that interesting to be honest. Something just don't work for me.

Maybe it is the over-produced vocals? I know it was on purpose, but it all falls a bit flat to me.

WALK OF LIFE

It is cute, I've always loved it! It is one of their best b-sides and you can tell why it is a bside and not on the main album. I like the ska sound and I wish tehy would do it again on tour (but they wont ah)...

It is so summery and fun, you just cant help to bop along to it

Victoria's verse sounds terrible though, it doesnt quite suit her at all lol :arrr:

STEP TO ME (Demo)

This is where it all starts crumbling, sadly...

Honestly, what the hell. I love the Step To Me demo that leaked ages ago, and this slowed down version is a direct youtube rip of a fan's upload who slowed the song down a bit to avoid it infringing copywrite on the platform...

It is wild to me this was ever aproved. I must admit that I dont hate it and there are nuances to their vocal takes that really florish here, but it shouldnt ever have been released, and in such bad quality too.

TOO MUCH (Live in Toronto)

I'm so sad. Too Much is such a gorgeous song and deserves better than this. The quality of the recording sucks the whole warmth of the song out of it. It sounds so bad... There are fan-made better bootlegs than this

It is nice to hear a new live take on the song, of course, and they sound great but honestly, why not remaster this song before releasing?... It sounds terrible, and it deserved better.

STOP (Live in Madrid)

Jesus... this is so sad. What a song. What a bad recording of it. Again, it sounds like someone was over the sound desk at the show recording on their phone. No mastering.

I would have really loved this in better quality. It would have really slapped. But this is a bit unbereable, sorry... I was done half-way through it.

MOVE OVER (Live in Istanbul)

One of their most iconic performances, ever. It is pure energy and chaos, great vibes and them just letting loose. I love it!

Yes, the cutting of the intro is sadly missed. But maybe for people who are not so familiar with it, it might not be such a jarring intro!

Love it though! I really, trully hope they do it again live :w00t:

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE (Live in Arnhem)

I honestly can't believe they put this out  They even released it as an inst-grat.... It sounds so terrible... SUcked the life right out of the song

Viva Forever (Live in Manchester)

Why?

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE (Morales Mix)

It is cute and I bop, but I kind wish I had something new or that wasnt released. Also, this is basically what they copy and pasted for the opening number of the Spice World 2019 tour... I wouldnt even be surprised if it was just a CD of this playing with them singing over it, it was so so so similar :teresa:

ANYWAY! I bop...

STOP (Morales Mix)

Unnecessary. It's fine, but nothing special and I dozzed off half way through it...

TOO MUCH (SoulShock & Karlin Remix)

It's nice, and I don't mind it here at all, actually. Probably one of their best mixes, very classy and cool. Gotta say that Mel C's bridge here is a bit annoying, it sounds forced. But overall it is nice.

VIVA FOREVER (John Themis Ambient Mix)

I remember that Biff saif in his Q&A last year that the demo for Viva Forever is just them singing and him on a guitar, and I always think this remix is take on that. The guitars are incredibly beautiful.

A nice addition to this, I'm glad it was included, as it is a highlight for me.

STEP TO ME (Extended Mix)

It's fine, a really well done remix, and I bop to it.

Did I need it here? No, not really. It feels inessential after we already have the single and the demo versions. But I don't mind it, just wish it would have given space to another track.

You know what? I would have loved to have seen this released as a stand alone EP last summer. IMAGINE:

Step To Me EP on limited edition Vinyl & CD

1. Step To Me

2. Step To Me (demo)

3. Step To Me (Extended mix)

4. Step To Me (another mix)

5. Step To Me (live in Istanbul)

Would have been amazing

Spice Girls Party Mix

So the Spice Girls songs like Wannabe, Spice Up Your Life, Stop and Who Do You Think You Are, always feature in many parties, hen do's, gay clubs, etc. Rightly, it is good they could be capitalising more on the remixing of their music to new generations, etc.

And this feels a bit like they got the idea to have a Spice megamix that the huns at the local hen do could put on and get everyone on the dancefloor.

I get it. But it feels really non-essential here. Also the mixing is not very good. In fact, it is quite terrible and repreats the songs we just heard ALMOST IN FULL

So yeah...

I feel sad listening to this because Spiceworld is such a perfect album, but this CD2 is a shambles... and embarassing one...

I'm glad we have Step To Me and the Viva Forever remix on streaming though. They are nice inclusions and should be celebrated for their brilliance

Enjoyed reading through that  Apart from the Do It slander x

Agree with everything regarding the bonus disc. The live tracks issue is honestly one of the very worst Spice related things to have ever happened in their entire career lol, it doesn't sit well with me. That struck me about the Party Mix too, it sounds so redundant and repetitive if you have actually taken the time to listen to the entire disc, repeating mixes already heard -_-

Oh yes, this is definitely the the bottom of the barrel for them, sadly. Even Headlines was better handled, in my opinion... At least then we actually got something new B-)

Thanks for hosting Jay! Loved reading through the forum which gave me the jump to do it finally :P
