TEOG was a huge hit with that strategy, I don't think it would've peaked any higher considering it was against Rolling In the Deep and Party Rock Anthem among others.
It'd be a #1 if released as the second single instead of Judas which should have been just a promo single or maybe a single but released later in the album campaign.

Her falling out with the director of the original video and that cheap, hastily shot video didn't help either.

Completely agree about Judas! But maybe not even a promo single - just a fan favourite album track would've done.

Judas almost destroyed her entire career! Thr only single choice that would have been worse over these albums would have been Venus.

I dom't get why peple say BTW wouldn't have worked as third single. It would have. A cheesy pop song comin third instead of first would not have done anything to its success. People see it as a Madonna rip off, so coming third actually would dampen the criticism of her being a Madonna copy, which was rife at thr time. Go with ScheiBe and EoG first and second, whatever order, more daring tracks and fitting in better with all her pretentious self-praise of the era, then go BTW ans release the album. Three no.1s right there. Then follow it up with Hair, another no.1 like TGIF, four, and then she has no further big hits on the album aside from those four, so she could release whatever, except Judas. UaI, MTN for the fans, whatever.

Singles run: Born This Way > Marry The Night > The Edge of Glory (perfect single to coincide with the album release) > and THEN go more out-there with the other choices!

Very much this. This would've been a perfect pre-album run of singles. I think MTN would've had a moment to shine whilst the two more commercial songs would've been huge hits. I feel she could've released Hair after this/after the album to carry the album and would've fared quite well. It's not my favourite Gaga track at all but it gives into the same self-love as BTW/MTN and feel would've thrived in 2011, not so much now.

Born This Way is the only lead choice I can imagine, it was such an amazing moment in pop culture too.

After that release odder choices like Judas, Scheisse and Bloody Mary. Strange the odd songs are now the ones thriving - Government Hooker has been gaining 100k+ daily streams for a while now too. Amazing.
