Just realised this is the first time Florence + The Machine didn’t get an album of the year nomination (and no noms altogether?!) Completely undeserved, Dance Fever is such a good album :(
Terrible nominations list. An all male Artist of the Year list is just appalling. I think I will give this year's show a miss.
Yeah I'll catch performances on YouTube or something, it's the worst list of nominations I've seen tbh

Wow, the nominations are all over the place this year but are they really trying to create a backlash or get people talking with that Artist of the Year category? How out of touch.

That category is screaming out for Rina or Charli in it.

Nice to see Sam up for Best New Artist but he deserved more nominations, he really shone in 2022. A Best Single nod would have been nice too, but I suppose that's determined by sales?

I think they should just remove Pop and have R&B as its own category, surely the point of the genre categories is to highlight artists that might not usually get a look in and anyone considered for the Pop category stands the most chance at being included in Artist of the Year.

Out of interest, what females would people have included in the Artist of the Year category? I can't think of any major snub.

I'm baffled Merry Christmas is in the Song Of The Year category. The song was released in 2021!

Must have been after the cut off for nominations for the 2022 BRITs.

Music Week said the nomination window was 10/12/2021 to 09/12/2022.

I’m thrilled for Sam ^_^

Plenty!

Rina Sawayama, Charli XCX, Mabel, PinkPantheress, FKA Twigs...

That's just the ones off the top of my head and released albums this year too.

Tina and Charli would definitely be two of my picks if I was choosing, but I guess I see Artist of the Year being more commercial based/dominated their genres so I can see a case for all the nominations we got and why them two didn’t.

At least you can say there’s a diversity in the type of music that’s been nominated within Artist of the Year which I think is just as important.

That being said, it was clear there was going to be a backlash so it’s surprising the BRITs didn’t avoid this situation, but I guess getting Twitter attention makes it worth it for them?

I kind of get where you're coming from, but they made Artist of the year to be more inclusive to just end up not including any women. I'd find it similarly odd if they didn't have any men there.

The nominations just all seem so lazy imo. Must be a poor panel of judges this time round.

Getting rid of individual gender awards with only 5 nominations to create one inclusive category was always going to bring up this problem. Maybe the way around it is to have more nominations for this category.

Fred Again seems a bit of a random inclusion for artist of the year (as much as I like him). Can only assume he's performing/a way to attract a younger audience.
