Over in the UK charts forum, Gezza has been counting down the Top 114 UK No. 1 songwriters. That is 114 individuals who've written at least 5 #1 songs in the UK charts. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=258730

All five Spice Girls are within the Top 20! :cheer:

20th - Victoria Beckham (11 #1 songs / 22 weeks at #1 with 9 singles)

19th - Geri Halliwell (11 #1 songs / 23 weeks at #1 with 10 singles)

17th - Mel B (12 #1 songs / 23 weeks at #1 with 10 singles)

16th - Emma Bunton (12 #1 songs / 24 weeks at #1 with 10 singles)

15th - Melanie C (13 #1 songs / 24 weeks at #1 with 11 singles)

Victoria: Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Mama, Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up Your Life, Too Much, Viva Forever, Goodbye, Holler, Let Love Lead the Way

Geri: Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Mama, Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up Your Life, Too Much, Viva Forever, Mi Chico Latino, Lift Me Up, Bag It Up

Mel B: Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Mama, Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up Your Life, Too Much, Viva Forever, I Want You Back, Goodbye, Holler, Let Love Lead the Way

Emma: Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Mama, Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up Your Life, Too Much, Viva Forever, Goodbye, Holler, Let Love Lead the Way, What Took You So Long?

Melanie C: Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Mama, Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up Your Life, Too Much, Viva Forever, Goodbye, Never Be the Same Again, I Turn to You, Holler, Let Love Lead the Way

(NOTE: Double A Sides were split, because the thread is regarding the amount of #1 songs rather than singles. However in terms of weeks spent at #1, that does take the Double A Sides into account, i.e. 3 weeks at #1 with Mama/Who Do You Think You Are and 1 week at #1 with Holler/Let Love Lead the Way.)

It's cool that after all these years they're all still within the Top 20 in terms of most songs written that reached #1, it's a great achievement that they're amongst the most successful songwriters in UK charts history. ^_^

Also:

Richard Stannard (Biff) is 28th (9 #1 songs / 22 weeks at #1 with 9 singles) [6 Spice Girls songs & 1 Emma Bunton song + 2 Five songs]

Matt Rowe is 74th (6 #1 songs / 17 weeks at #1 with 6 singles) [6 Spice Girls songs]

Paul Wilson & Andy Watkins are joint 108th (5 #1 songs / 8 weeks at #1 with 5 singles) [3 Geri Halliwell songs & 2 Spice Girls songs]

I think Mel B didn't write I Want You Back.

Oops! Somebody must have edited her Wikipedia page for it at some point, to say that Mel B is a writer on the song
^ she did the bits at the end that are no on the record
I think Mel B didn't write I Want You Back.

You are correct, at least according to the single when it was released!

In terms of British females, Melanie C is in 1st place :cheer: And second place female overall only behind Madonna. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=7248943 [Technically they're tied with 13 #1 written songs each, but they're separated by Madonna having spent more weeks at #1 than Melanie has].

In terms of females that have written the most #1 songs that they also have vocals on, then Melanie would be the top placed female (because one of Madonna's credited #1s is a Gary Barlow single).
