Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon will miss the rest of the Ashes series against England with the calf injury he sustained in the second Test at Lord's.

Lyon, who has 496 Test wickets, suffered the issue on day two of the encounter.

The 35-year-old's absence was confirmed as Australia left him out of their squad for the remaining three Tests because of a "significant calf tear".

Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the rest of the Ashes series with a dislocated shoulder.

England's vice-captain was injured diving in the field during the second Test at Lord's, which Australia won to take a 2-0 series lead.

England have made three changes for the third Ashes Test, bringing in Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali.

Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the series but England have opted against replacing him with Dan Lawrence, the spare batter in their squad.

Instead, Harry Brook moves up to number three with all-rounders Woakes and Moeen added to bolster the lower order.

Wood joins Woakes, Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson in the pace attack with Josh Tongue and James Anderson rested.

The Test begins at Headingley on Thursday.

England Women have won the 2nd T20 to revitalise the Ashes. Very impressive from Danni Wyatt with the bat and out in the field.

They lost the Test and the first T20. One more T20 and 3 ODIs to go before the Women's Ashes are complete.

England kept their Ashes hopes alive by beating Australia by three wickets in the third Test in another nerve-shredding Headingley finale.

Harry Brook hit a superb 75 but it was left to bowlers Chris Woakes and Mark Wood to drag the hosts over the line in pursuit of 251.

Ben Stokes had no hesitation in saying England can win the Ashes after their dramatic third-Test win at Headingley.

England's three-wicket victory keeps the series alive but Australia still lead 2-1 with two Tests to play.

Only one side - Australia in 1936-37 - has ever come from 2-0 down to win the Ashes.

Bairstow surely gets dropped for the 4th test at Old Trafford - still think our openers are sub poor and Brook isn't as #3.

Set up nice for the rest of the series now!

Yes, I would bring in Ben Foakes for Johnny Bairstow.

Great to see England win this time, they deserved that for all the effort they have put in.

Foakes is a way better keeper but he's just as useless with the bat. I do think Bairstow could do with time out. We'd be better bringing Buttler back, but not sure he will come back to Test cricket.

The England Women have won the T20 section 2-1. It is Australia's first series loss since 2017. They have to win the 3 ODIs to regain the Ashes.
The Women's Ashes are now level 6-6. What a comeback after the first two matches. It's also superb the way they are playing at the bigger grounds (Trent Bridge, Edgbaston, Lord's).

Lancashire's Rob Jones hit a battling century in vain as the hosts fell just short of a record-breaking run chase to lose at home to Essex at Blackpool with just 10 balls to spare.

Essex's fourth win of the season lifted the 2017 and 2019 title winners up to second in the County Championship Division One table, within 13 points of leaders Surrey.

An overnight Essex declaration on 292-8 set Lancashire, bowled out in their first innings for 145, an unlikely 430 to win - their highest ever to win a county game.

Brett Hutton's fifth five-wicket haul of the season was the highlight of the final day at The Oval as Surrey's County Championship match with Nottinghamshire petered out into a draw.

Hutton, who spent a portion of day one off the field with what proved to be cramp, took 5-91 to take his tally for the season in the Championship to 41, putting him alongside Durham's Chris Rushworth at the top of the wicket-taking standings.

South African leg-spinner Calvin Harrison provided great support for Hutton with 3-99 to bowl out the hosts for 340, 40 minutes after lunch.

This was a heroic effort from the visitors who, already without the services of Jake Ball, injured in the first innings, then lost Dane Paterson to what appeared to be a hip injury after just one delivery with the new ball.

Somerset ended an 18-year wait to win the T20 for the second time as they beat Essex at Edgbaston.

Having won the trophy in only its third year of existence when they beat Lancashire at The Oval in 2005, this was their first T20 Blast triumph at Edgbaston.

And they did it in remarkable fashion, twice defending scores of 145 or less, to beat 2003 inaugural winners Surrey in the second semi-final and then 2019 winners Essex to crown themselves Kings of the South.

England have recalled James Anderson in place of Ollie Robinson for the must-win fourth Ashes Test against Australia at Old Trafford.

Anderson, 40, comes in on his home ground after being rested for the third-Test victory at Headingley.

England chipped away at Australia's batting on a tense and fluctuating first day of the crucial fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford.

At 2-1 down and needing to win to force a series decider at The Oval, England struck at regular intervals to leave the tourists 299-8 at the close.

Stuart Broad took two, with the second - Travis Head hooking to long leg - making him only the fifth bowler in Test history to reach 600 wickets.

Chris Woakes was the most consistently dangerous - his 4-52 included a magnificent catch from under-fire wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow to remove Mitchell Marsh.
