Thank you!!!

I’d forgotten just how different it was to the album version. I need to dig out my 12” of it because I think that may be different yet again. So many versions of the track!

I've had a listen to the album today. I thought Song Of Life was the best track so I agree with you on that one. I knew Open Up already and that's another good one.

From the other tracks, I liked Original and Space Shanty the best. I also recognised an Art Of Noise sample on Melt.

Any album that is reliant on rhythms and grooves has its limitations so I don't think it's an outstanding piece of work but I enjoyed listening to it and I would think that in 1995 it would have sounded quite innovative.

I’ve never picked up on the art of noise sample before! :o

It’s probably because I knew Melt before the Art of Noise but still I feel like I should have

Rollo is kindly going to do a listen through session tonight for both of the albums nominated so far - ie this and ELO. Join if you can!

My first impression top 5 from the listenthrough:

1 Storm 3000 - I see this seems to be a bit of an underrated deep cut and one of the least streamed songs on the album but I really loved it, a banging fusion of some garagey and jungley sounds

2 Original - a more mainstream pick but absolutely loved the vibes on this one, the subtle bleep bloops + Massive Attack 'Teardrop' esque vocals in particular

3 Release The Pressure - I think I've heard this one before, sounded familiar, great opener though

4 Space Shanty - hypnotising

5 Afro-Left - although I kind of wish I hadn't looked up its Wikipedia article! sounds great but even as someone who thinks cultural appropriation is a rather overused phrase...

Open Up and Song Of Life were very good too (though the latter took a few minutes to get going) and Black Flute could maybe have been up there too if it was a bit longer, felt like it was over in the blink of an eye compared to the rest of the album. The other three tracks didn't do as much for me (Melt would be nice for an ambient/chillout playlist I guess) but nothing I disliked here.

Think Release The Presure, Original, Space Shanty and Open Up were my favourites. Great to listen with company, find it really helps me to listen properly. Impressed with the range of styles not just across different tracks but within some of the tracks even.
