Initial thoughts:

 

ADGY - Too Good for Your Love - doesn't stick out at all, a DNQ for Ireland.

 

CONNOLLY - Midnight Summer Night - better but not quite doing it for me and another DNQ short of a major revamp I'd imagine.

 

Wild Youth - We Are One - Apparently they're quite a big deal in Ireland, this feels like one of those stadium chorus style Eurovision tracks that ultimately falls flat and doesn't qualify.

 

Leila Jane - Wild - Love this! It has a touch of demo to it but with a revamp it could be really special I think, it would have a good chance of qualifying.

 

K Muni & ND - Down in the Rain - contemporary rap track - hard to tell how it would do at Eurovision as there's nothing to compare it too, and it doesn't have a major pop hook so I'm guessing not that well, but an interesting entry.

 

Public Image Limited - Hawaii - Wow, John Lydon! Apparently this is about his wife, who is living with Alzheimer's. It's a good track and feels very honest and less generic than the others. Would certainly get some press attention for Ireland and I also think the juries and maybe a not too awful televote could take it into the final.

My big question about Wild Youth is they are competent so why have they gone via Sweden? There are so many good songwriters in Ireland and the UK but they've made a generic stereotype of an ESC song. Someone described it as an X Factor's winner single from 2009 which is apt.

 

The rap/RnB one is interesting I'd like to see how a song like that gets on at Eurovision - Daz Sampson tried loool.

Public Image Ltd surely has to be one of the more unexpected names to pop up as a Eurovision contender!

An improvement on last year's selection but it's still poor.

I really don't know why we're not sending Lyra to represent us.

Wild has potential but is underproduced. A revamp and if she happens to have amazing vocals it could qualify.

Public Image Limited will probably be the fave to go through regardless of the song but interesting to see if it goes that way, i do agree about Lyra though i think she could be a good option.

Well John Lydon from PIL is infamous for his views so I'm not sure if PIL is the frontrunner :unsure:

If they could get whoever produced To Good for Your Love to produce Wild then we'd have a decent chance of qualification.

The press are loving John Lydon. I can see locals voting for him that wouldn't normally be interested...

Almost certainly Wild Youth vs Public Image Ltd then. I actually think the latter would give Ireland a better chance of reaching the Eurovision final? It seems like a bit of jury bait lyrically.

 

I think Wild Youth's song might get lost in the mix.

I've seen a few UK/Irish locals who hate Eurovision and/or haven't watched it since the 1970s taking this random stance:

 

"Ireland should send John Rotten. I'd definitely watch it and he's far more interesting than that Sam Ryder".

 

He has brought huge media and public interest for Eurosong if nothing else. The CONNOLLY song was uploaded as a demo so it could get a revamp. Wild Youth have wasted their chance of Q but their fanbase might get them to Eurovision. Brooke upgraded her performance and some of these are more accessible songs so a bit of oomph and making friends with their semi-final countries could them to the final.

You know I'll give this to Ireland, at least this is a very diverse selection and not (all) bad radiopop rejects like most Ireland finals I can remember.

 

'Hawaii' is genuinely really good, I could see that standing out in a way Ireland haven't done for ages (Lydon being a bit of a twat notwithstanding), 'Midnight Summer Night' is the other one I'm enjoying, some good indie-pop, the rap entry is interesting, I wanted to like Wild Youth but that feels far too stadium-generic for what I expected from them, discard the other two.

And yet again, someone who hates Eurovision but is uneducated about its content.

The HOD Michael Kealy has done nothing for Ireland in over 10 years. This week he reposted the news that talked about the ROTTEN one to get attention or idfk. His revolutionary 5 tips for Ireland were:

• Look at last years top 10 (??)
• Don't write a song for Eurovision (WILD YOUTH??)
• Be able to sing (DUHHH)
• Make it 3 minutes or less (IT'S IN THE RULES FELLA)
• Native languages do well (WHERE IS GAELIC THEN?)

CLUELESS MATE. Ireland at JESC 2022 sent a beautiful Gaelic ballad. He's proud of sending an anti-woke homophobe who thinks the whole thing is awful cringe dirge.

The language is called Irish. You wouldn't refer to German as Deutsch or French as Français.

 

It's a commonly misunderstood word.

Hawaii came up on my Spotify new releases playlist. It's pretty good but I can't help thinking Lydon's reputation might put a lot of people off (including viewers elsewhere if it's chosen).
