Hmm, wonder where they got that name from....

papa lazarou??? obviously!! enless your being sarcastic.

sadly, mark isnt writing an episode for series 3

Well... I've been avoiding this thread like the plague, as I haven't seen it until now on BBC3 since I did not watch Xmas Day

I found it pretty good actually, better than last year's xmas special, one hilarious scene was the Tardis chasing the Taxi on the motorway  And it would have been great if Catherine Tate uttered 'Am I Bovvered' somewhere in the dialogue, preferably at the end.

One annoying thing, I wish they start dropping Torchwood references, for peace sake its Dr. Who. Comparing Torchwood to Dr. Who is just cra.p, but I did miss Billie Piper, it feels like a big hole is missing from it.

Trailers for the new season looked pretty good, hope it fares better than Season 2.

Not directed at you personally but in general all I see is one rule for males another for females.

Tennant, I like - but he's camp, he's jokey, he's silly - thats what Dr Who is and that Catherine signed up to be involved in and thats exactly how she was. And if people dont like her acting, thats OK but I dont see how it's alright they accept it for him and not for her...other than he's male.

It's the same with her comedy where men often say she's not funny when highest rated BBC2 show and awards are proof that she is.

Who says I like David Tenant??? In case you hadn't noticed, I've criticised his interpretation of Dr Who on several occasions... He's an annoying, camp little man, Chris Eccleston was FAR better than he was...

And who says I dont like the Catherine Tate Show..? It's an excellent sketch show... I just found her annoying in this particular thing, and frankly I dont think she's that good a straight actor... I think Ricky Gervais and Eddie Izzard are both c**p at straight acting as well, so dont presume to call me sexist...

Satisfied now....?

ricky gevais cant act, he just sits there smiling. hes an idiot.

same as cathering tate. what was her acent ment to be in the xmas day episode of dr who???? utterly awfull, which how i would describe her programme

GRIMLY FIENDISH – you are what, the only person to have said that in the thread? You aren’t speaking for everyone or even the people who posted her, that is your better opinion.

And you people are so annoying. How many times do you need to say you don’t like Catherine Tate? Everytime I come here that’s all I read!

I don’t like plenty of people but I have better things to do with my life than go on an Internet forum and repeat and repeat how much I don’t like someone. I’m not a fan of Ricky Gervais but people don’t just get as famous as him if they have no talent!!! I accept he’s not to my taste and get over it. At least he worked for his fame, like Catherine does!

Why do people think comedy is black and white? You may as well say “all music should make you feel good†when we all have genres we love and hate. Comedy is exactly the same and not everybody finds the same things funny.

It’s so off putting, I only post here because of one of the moderators.

Don’t even know why I’m letting it get to me and replying now – I’ll just go and use a forum where people are a bit more sensible in their criticism.

Gervais is good at things like "The Office" or "Extras", but the more straight acting roles I've seen him in, he's just not impressed at all, the guy has talent alright, but I think he's slightly fooling himself if he believes that he can stretch it into more dramatic roles, he's a comedy actor. Eddie Izzard has rather embarrassed himself in just about every film he's been in as well, but remains one of our greatest ever Comedians. It's a case of "don't write out cheques your ass cant cash" if you get my meaning...

Gervais is rather over-rated though, if you compare him to the likes of Simon Pegg (who is marvellous IMO) or some of the enormously talented actors in "Green Wing" (particulary Steven Mangan, Tamsin Greig or Mark Heap) he frankly falls on his arse...

I have to agree with what you say about Green Wing actors and Simon Pegg (I'm glad he's getting so much sucsess as a movie performer) - then again, if Simon was as big as Ricky we might be saying he's over-rated.

But I doubt it as he's truly made some classic comedy. I think comedy actors can do straight roles easier than straight actors doing comedy but I guess it can go wrong for some people! I like the comedy actors who stick to comedy as it's often what they're best at.

I personally wouldn't call Doctor Who a straight acting role, it's tongue in cheek and often has a bit of comedy thrown in. Simon's cameo was that and people like Trigger from Only Fools and Peter Kay - made me laugh so I figured it was supposed to be OTT & comedy.

I personally wouldn't call Doctor Who a straight acting role..

That's the problem I have with the new series, too bloody 'jokey' by far... The thing I always liked about the old series WAS the fact that the actors all played it totally straight no matter how ludicrous things seemed or how naff the 'special effects' were.... Too much of 'post-modernist' bullsh!t for my taste, Chris Eccleston lent a real sense of gravitas to the role in the style of Pertwee or Baker and he was DEADLY serious in how he approached the role, his performances had an edge and a genuine, raw passion about them that Tenant just utterly lacks... All this 'jokey' c**p is a very recent addition, and a totally unwelcome one as far as I'm concerned, which is why I prefer "Torchwood" with its more serious and adult-oriented plotlines....

I'll tell ya what'll improve Dr Who - sacking Russel T Davis, getting Terry Nation back on script-writing duties and replacing David 'wee sh!te' Tenant with someone like Mark Gattiss or Steven Mangan....

if Simon was as big as Ricky we might be saying he's over-rated.

Well, Simon is a pretty big deal, I would say his profile is pretty much on a par with Ricky Gervais, and he's certainly done more varied film-work (royally p***ing on David Schwimmer in "The Big Nothing" - mind you, not that that's really difficult.. ).. Look out for "Hot Fuzz" in cinemas in February, with a Simon Pegg/Nick Frost reunion...

I heard that Mark Gatiss was asked to do it but turned it down because of the tough filming schedule. Can't believe it!

Gutted... :(

Well, then perhaps Matthew Holness ("Garth Marenghi", "Man To Man With Dean Lerner")....?

I don't know who he is. I was only going to watch it if Mark was the doctor.

You mean you've never seen the work of bizarre comedy/horror genius that is "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace"????? :o :o Shocking!! That is something for you definitely to purchase on DVD....

Well I haven't seen classic Doctor Who, I'd like to see it repeated though so I could get a feel for it. I was looking at the boxsets for the new series and series 1 is £51.99 - for 13 episodes?? Entire boxets of Buffy are £15.99 at the minute. So hmmm that annoyed me.

Even not seeing it I respect that original fans might have issues with the changes. I don't think the comedy moments always work in it, sometimes they do when appropriate...I like Torchwood but I think sometimes it's gone too dark which takes the escapism away from it, if it was the same as the better episodes of series 1 I'd deffinitely prefer it. I liked all of Christopher series and I do like David Tennant (Billie's better for me tho) but some episodes of series 2 were just bad. Mark's episode was a highlight!

Glad that people like Torchwood - wasn't sure if Doctor Who fans thought it was going too far.

Hot Fuzz is February! Woo, I knew it was coming but that's close! Cant wait.
