OMG. :w00t: :cheer:

"See The Day" is my second favourite Girls Aloud song, but the majority (even group fans here) dislike it very much, so I was very suprised to see this single so high in any other chart, which is not "Gražios Dainos".

Oh nice to see another fan of it here! It's a nice cover.

'Love Generation' is the superior Bob track. Of course RTP had to be his biggest despite it being his weakest effort. Although I don't know his 2000 one I don't think.

'Hung Up' is great too of course.

'See The Day' is fine enough as well.

Yeah Rock This Party was crap, the annoying vocal on it.

I’ve never been a fan of Love Generation. Hung Up took a long time for me to warm to, but I like it now. See The Day is the only other I’ve heard and it’s quite pleasant.

Good to hear you like Hung Up now, must admit it was pretty instant for me, but was the only chart topper Madonna ever had on my chart! She would have had a few more in the 80s and 90s though if it had existed.

Shivers is a goodie, Helena & Mariah decent, and I agree about Back To Bedlam, great album and James Blunt unfairly derided over the years, he's funny, self-deprecating and his stuff has remained consistently good.

See The Day, love the Dee C original, Hung Up was a big chart-topper for me, a pop classic, Perfection and Love Generation good dance tracks, and most of the rest I don't recall :o

Yeah I agree, I still buy all of James Blunt's albums, it's still good quality, and he is hilarious.

23/23: DHT feat Edmee - Listen To Your Heart (3 weeks at No.1)

Eurodance music was in short supply by the mid 00s, as everything seemed to be looped house - at least in the charts - but Belgian act DHT brought early 00s vibes back with their cover of Roxette's classic Listen To Your Heart, which sounded a little dated because it was - originally being released in Belgium in 2003. Available in two big mixes, a ballad version and a trance style version, both got airplay and helped the song to become a surprisingly major US hit, reaching No.8 in summer 2005 there. This helped it out elsehwere and by Christmas it finally surfaced here, peaking at No.7 and spending 10 weeks in the top 40. It was a nice bit of nostalgia for me, both the cover and the production style, and was my Christmas No.1 that year. I also loved the parent album of the same name, which spun off a few other hits into my chart.

1/21: Texas - Sleep (1 week at No.1)

Onto my favourite year of the 00s, 2006! I was in my first and second year of uni, clearly having a great time, and this and 2007 were the soundtrack to those days. It doesn't hurt that the UK No.1s were closer aligned with my taste than they ever had been before, there was a lot of great diversity and some long running hits as downloads became properly entrenched and properly influential for the first time. Kicking things off though was an old favourite of mine, Scottish band Texas returned to the top after just over two years away with Sleep, featuring a great music video directed by and featuring Peter Kay, which no doubt helped its cause. A great little radio friendly track, it became their last ever UK top 40 hit and also their final No.1 in my chart. Sharleen would release a successful solo album two years later and the band have also continued to release albums since, including the brilliant single Mr Haze on their most recent album.

'Listen To Your Heart' is great. Both that and original are as good as each other for me!

'Because Of You' <3 & 'Breakaway' 'Biology' is another of GA's better ones too.

2/21: Delta Goodrem - Never Fades Away (1 week at No.1)

A year after her previous No.1, Delta was between albums and busy trying to break international markets. For her first Japanese album she combined the biggest tracks from both Innocent Eyes and Mistaken Identity, and called it ... Innocent Eyes. The bonus for international fans was two extra tracks, the ballads Never Fades Away and Flawed. The latter peaked at No.2 for me but Never Fades Away went all the way. Written by Delta with Bridget Benenate and Matthew Gerrard, you can pretty clearly hear Brian McFadden's backing vocals on the chorus although luckily they don't detract from it. On iTunes and streaming platforms the song is now available as part of the A Little Too Late EP.

I'd agree with that, great version of the track.

I was obsessed with the Breakaway album, if only I had space to put all those songs at No.1

3/21: Kate DeAraugo - Maybe Tonight (1 week at No.1)

Australian Idol winner Kate DeAraugo continued the run of ballads, with her lovely coronation single Maybe Tonight hitting the top for a week. The track reached No.1 in Australia in late 2005 and was taken from her album A Place I've Never Been, which I imported and also enjoyed. Highlights included Veronicas co-write Faded, which was later covered by Cascada, and a cover of the now well-trodden Heaven.

4/21: The Veronicas - 4ever (2 weeks at No.1)

Talking of The Veronicas, twin sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso released their debut album The Secret Life Of... in late 2005 and I finally obtained it on import (let's face it, probably in the same order as the Delta and Kate albums ) in early 2006. I'd heard 4ever and was instantly impressed by the spiky and anthemic pop-rock track, written by Max Martin and Dr Luke. Desperate for more music in the vein of Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway, this album could have been its sonic sibling and I was very happy with it. I still count both among my favourite ever albums.

4ever reached No.2 in Australia in 2005 but bizarrely took until 2009 to surface as a single in the UK, following the success the same year of Untouched, from their second album released originally in 2007 (the UK was so 2000 and late with this band). This made 4ever sound like a dated three-year-old rip-off of P!nk's U + Ur Hand, which Max Martin and Dr Luke also co-wrote, but of course 4ever was actually released first...

Everything I'm Not, Revolution, When It All Falls Apart, Secret and Speechless from the same album are pretty much etched in my brain as relating to good uni memories, so for this album and band I am forever grateful.

If I had a token underrated chart hit of 2006 it would totally be 'Sleep' for me. Nice little song which feels very forgotten sadly especially with all the monster pop, dance and indie landfill hits that came out.

Also prefer '4Ever' over 'Untouched' which is likely a huge hot take opinion

4Ever was bigger in my chart than Untouched too, oops. I love it still though.

Yeah Sleep had an ok chart run, but does deserve to be a little better remembered. Seems The Conversation went top 75 for them in 2013, but that's it since.

5/21: Meck feat Leo Sayer - Thunder In My Heart (2 weeks at No.1)

A somewhat surprising career revival here for 70s chart star Leo Sayer. 80s looped house was still all the rage, although the trend was petering out ever so slightly, but this song went further back for its inspiration and British producer Meck's take on Leo's 70s single Thunder In My Heart worked better than most, giving a 00s production flourish to a song with a great vocal from Leo and a big chorus. The appearance gave Leo enough of a career boost to be relevant enough to appear on Celebrity Big Brother the following year, where he famously walked out after a row over clean underwear not being provided.

6/21: Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On (2 weeks at No.1)

The award for the most charming single of 2006 probably goes to Put Your Records On, the second hit for Leeds singer Corinne (following 2005's Like A Star), which was very heavily hyped and overplayed and in the end it was a surprise this only peaked at No.2 in the UK in the end. A breezy, soulful pop song with an effortlessly smooth vocal from Corinne, it was her only No.1 for me but I also loved her self-titled album that the song came from, which did make it to the top of the UK charts.
