February 8, 20232 yr That Don't Impress Me Much is just genius, Man I Feel Like a Woman is more annoying than genius tbh her ballads were also great like You're Still the One also partial to Don't be Stupid
February 8, 20232 yr Agree with That Don't Impress Me Much being genius. I remember it being such a moment/anthem when it was released in Australia. It was one of those songs everyone knew/liked.
February 8, 20232 yr And the line about Brad Pitt was everywhere, even now, in the last couple months I've seen in 2 different contests, one on UK radio and one in Spanish tv, asking from what song/singer the Brad Pitt line was. The entire Come on Over album was genius and the perfect mix of country and pop. She was the original Taylor ;)

It’s the first truly massive album I remember seeing in the charts. It just dominated.
February 8, 20232 yr Just checked, it’s the 2nd highest selling album of all time in Australia. 25x Platinum = 1,750,000.
February 8, 20232 yr That Don't Impress Me Much is my favourite out of her two mega smashes! The songs that prevented That Don't Impress Me Much and Man! I Feel Like a Woman from Top 2 peaks: 01. 142,901 - Boyzone - You Needed Me 02. 142,153 - Geri Halliwell - Look at Me 03. 109,000 - Shania Twain - That Don't Impress Me Much 01. 251,000 - Shanks & Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate 02. 81,000 - Boyzone - You Needed Me 03. 64,000 - Shania Twain - That Don't Impress Me Much 01. 141,000 - Shanks & Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate 02. 70,000 - Wiseguys - Ooh La La 03. 68,000 - Shania Twain - That Don't Impress Me Much 01. 164,500 - Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) 02. 84,000 - S Club 7 - S Club Party 03. 80,000 - Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like a Woman 01. 141,000 - Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) 02. 64,000 - S Club 7 - S Club Party 03. 59,000 - Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like a Woman The week before That Don't Impress Me Much entered at #3, Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way was at #1 with 93,000 sales. If Shania had released a week earlier then maybe she'd have got to #1 instead of colliding with the Boyzone vs Geri battle (of course this is a very thing to mention x). 24 years later and I still can't believe a song as dull as You Needed Me could sell 143k, followed by 81k. The power Boyzone had was quite something, although I'm going off topic. [Edit: 224,000 sales in its first two weeks, and 343,000 overall in 1999 - yet it's still not certified Gold (400k+) in 2023... that says a lot about how You Needed Me isn't well remembered despite being a big hit at the time] Interesting to see that S Club 7 were only a few thousand ahead in both week 1 and 2. After that Shania pulled ahead and remained ahead of S Club 7 for the rest of their respective chart runs: 02 02 07 14 23 27 32 31 30 45 59 70 00 00 68 72 [s Club Party] 03 03 06 10 15 18 19 25 29 32 36 46 45 46 48 50 58 67 78 81 85 00 97 [Man! I Feel Like a Woman]
February 8, 20232 yr Great staying power for Man! I Feel Like a Woman. It really pulled ahead of S Club Party after week 4.
February 8, 20232 yr Bit ambitious to go against Boyzone & Geri A couple weeks ago Music Week posted that the album is on 3,517k sales in the UK, so Platinum x11 and closing on x12
February 8, 20232 yr Author Music Week album sales from last month: 3,517,003 Come On over 791,728 Up! 381,344 Woman in Me
February 8, 20232 yr Come On Over at 3.5 million is incredible. Great to see Up! Edging closer to 800,000 as well.
February 8, 20232 yr Was expecting to see (If You’re Not In It For Love) I’m Outta Here on this list. Yeah interesting shout! I don't think I realised until now that its huge success was exclusive to Australia* so it looks largely glossed over as a lesser hit on the back end of her Greatest Hits, but for me it's definitely one of her most recognisable songs. *Well US success is complicated because country hits weren't properly counted in the '90s and it wasn't until she started deliberately making pop crossover versions that she was properly represented on the Hot 100.
February 8, 20232 yr Strange that Thank You Baby is even lower down the rankings than some of her songs that didn’t even get a single release here. Also poor research in the article calling the album Giddy Up.
