February 25, 20232 yr Author I see why Kylie didn't go with this first, it's a great pop song, and my favourite on the album, but very dance-pop Kylie by numbers, so wouldn't have made for the most engaging lead single. Was pleasantly surprised it made the top five as a second single though. It was good to go with something a little riskier first, but The One or In My Arms would have been a clear evolution in sound while also being stronger than 2 Hearts. I'm pretty sure I read that 'In My Arms' was going to be the lead single but it leaked in the summer and the label thought that would ruin its chances of success. I don't think it would have, it was really strongly received when it did leak and, as Aly says, her physical sales would have guaranteed it get a good peak. I do like the thought of 'The One' being lead single though, it just sounds so right for winter radio and feels like a natural progression from 'I Believe in You'. It had a chaotic start to its chart life especially for back then - 32-28-43-29-27-26-22-20-18-5-5…. It was awarded a higher peak thanks to XF, physicals and remixes I dunno, I think that's a pretty standard download era post-album sort of chart run, it's just that we hadn't witnessed this with Kylie yet. I probably would have expected the boost from X Factor to be higher and for it not to collapse 28-43 though. Another good album! I loved all theee singles from it. Get Outta Ma Way was probably my favourite. The wholw album is just authentic Kylie. 'Get Outta My Way' was from the next album, 'Aphrodite'!
