Ed has had a nearly identical start to Calvin 2 weeks ago, both debuting at #5 on Spotify with almost the same number of streams (Ed a few thousand higher) and rising to #3 on Apple on their second day. Remains to be seen if he'll have a similar trajectory going forward. You would think he shouldn't have too much trouble selling enough CDs to make up the gap for a #1 debut this week but he'll definitely need some improvement to be more than a one week #1 (i.e. basically 'Bad Habits' all over again, just a question of if he can pull off that trick again).

Have never heard the name Paris Paloma before this song suddenly showing up (first saw it in the US iTunes chart yesterday) but I Googled her and the song does actually look potentially interesting, saw a blurb describing it as 'folky witch-pop'.

Great showing for Lana's album tracks, as I posted in her album thread this is the most songs she has ever landed in the UK Spotify top 100 on album release day! Hopefully that will cross over to healthy physical sales too so she can secure another #1 album. *.* in particular at 'A&W' being back in the top 40 and her handing Tommy Genesis and Father John Misty positions in the Spotify top 100 with their features.

And a better debut than I expected for FLO, still below where they are on Apple as with previous releases (in fact this is actually their first song to chart on Spotify at all!) but not by a huge amount, definitely looks safe to at the very least outpeak 'Cardboard Box' now, would be good for them if this can make the top 40.

Tbf the more I listen to this Ed song the more it feels like a grower than an instant smash

Eyes Closed:

iTunes: 3+4

Apple Music: 4

Amazon Music: 17+64

Spotify day 2: 7 (242k)

I expected a much bigger start than this from Ed, like mentioned before without physicals he certainly wouldn’t be debuting at #1

Come on Flowers! You can grow all over Cheesy Fad's fungal cheese!! And Miracles, can you not pull off a Miracle, oh, won't you please give us the miracle that we need?!
If Calvin manages a week at #1, I’m all for it. Just not Miley hogging the top
Cheesy Fad has hogged rhe top 100x more thsn Miley, oe snyone else for that matter(? He probably thinks he is bigger thaj Spice Girls and Elvis combinee with that yuge ego of his!! Even a song ob its 50th week at no 1 would be preferable, and less no.1 hoggy rhan Cheesy Fad!

Why is it that you solely judge a song's quality based on how recent it is?

Because it’s nice to see different songs at #1. I don’t mind just a few weeks but not that long. At least I can’t blame streaming for two of those weeks she had at #1 because even though PP was #1 on streaming, Miley had strong enough paid-for sales to keep her off for two of those weeks

Those numbers for Ed really don't suggest a nine-week No.1, as I thought when I first heard it. It's too low-key to be a mega hit.

I think it will be a more similar run to Forget Me by Lewis Capaldi, an opening scrape to the top in its first week and then a decent top 5/10 run.

Unless his streams vastly improve quickly then Miracle is going to No.1 next week, and will probably be there for a few unless anything else big emerges/superstar returns etc.

Miracle nearly 200K ahead of Ed

Ed doing barely 240K on a Saturday is pretty poor

Truly compelling stuff.

One thing that always amazes me is how huge are streams in Spain compared to the UK

Bizarrap had a newbie on Thursday, opened with 1.2 million, yesterday Rosalia & Rauw opened with 1.7 million, even 1.3 million on day 2

Rosalia is also overexposed and always releases non-stop

while the biggest UK star in the world opens with barely 300K in the UK and that's with being #1 on NMF, #3 on HH and #1 on TTH

Most people in UK no longer listen to particular certain of artists and is very more based on non commercial songs. I think as a country we have a more varied taste
