New game show, fronted by Greg James and from the creators of The Traitors, airing from tonight on Channel 4. Contestants have the chance to win up to £100,000.

Rise and Fall tests how far a group of 16 contestants would go to hold power, with the group being split into Rulers and Grafters. Rise and Fall takes 16 ordinary people and asks them to sort themselves into two groups: the Grafters – who'll be living in a dingy basement and must take part in challenges to build the prize pot – and the Rulers, who make decisions affecting their underlings and will ultimately win the money.

Throughout the show, Grafters will be given opportunities to join those at the top, while the Rulers will vote for which of their fellow players in the penthouse should leave the competition for good.

"The cash prize starts at zero and only builds if challenges devised by those in power are completed by those who are not," Channel 4 teases.

"Those at the bottom must find a way to make it to the top, as only the most powerful and influential can win the game."

The show is filmed in a central London high rise building, with the Grafters living in squalor in the basement with little sunlight, prison-style beds and cold showers, while the Rulers live in a luxurious apartment, complete with a hot tub, picturesque views of the city skyline and champagne.

I liked the first episode! Ramona is truly awful and Cheryl is too - I liked her initially but then she really attacked Rachel for no reason and was tight up Ramona's asshole. I can't take to Sophie even being casted on there too, she deserves absolutely no platform whatsoever and I thought Channel 4 were better than that actually.

I'm hoping Rachel stays, her and Rishika are easily the best and the ones who speak the most sense as the leaders. But I feel like Matt will be a boring flip flop and vote her off.

I'm not surprised really - the cast is either unlikeable, smug or a just super elite which the public can't relate to. Rishika, Rachel and Prince are all great though.

The pace just isn't fast enough also and kind of seems to be making it up as they go along. I am going to continue to tune in but it's not exciting or gripping me in the same way that The Traitors did.

I thought the point was Rise and Fall, where is the falling?? Why didn’t Ramona go down to be a grafter? I thought the point of the show would be you can rise to the top but, be careful, because you can easily fall right back into being a grafter and it would be about the power struggle to stay on top. I think that would be so much more interesting, with so much more story, than just churning out new people.

I really think it’s a massive error in the format, which could have generated a lot more talking points. I think the danger is that now becomes a bit more faceless and generic.

I agree with this, as horrendous as Ramona was, it would have made for such better TV had she gone to the basement rather than just being outright evicted. Strange decision.

This is so shockingly bad I’m almost enthralled  I honestly do think most of it is the casting, apart from Rachel and Rishika and I suppose Jack is nice enough and harmless, they are some awful arrogant people at worst and dull as dishwater at best. Matt especially is utterly insufferable, I cringe so so hard when he gives “feedback” to people :puke: I wish they actually played the game a bit more but it honestly feels like they’re acting like they’re at an actual job not a reality TV game.

I agree the pacing is off and it’s really anticlimactic when the rulers just get voted off rather than actually “fall”. To see people potentially go between the two halves of the game and see the rulers go from lording it over them to being down in the basement I feel would be great TV. At the moment, it’s just cringe that we’ve got a bunch of awful people acting like they’re role playing for a training video for people becoming middle management for an office

It also feels like they’ve cast awful people like Sophie f***ing Corcoran and Ramona, knowing it would fan flames in a show like this that’s a thinly veiled reference to societal class divides at a time like the one we live in. I was enjoying Sophie having an invisible edit but she had to crop up with her Tory opinions 83 times tonight ofc…

I watched the first 4 episodes last night and maybe because my expectations were so low, I didn't mind it.

There are some big problems in terms of structure and pace though and continually adding people into the mix. The pace just doesn't seem that fast - maybe we've been spoiled by The Traitors and the turn over of Murders/ Banishments and the people cast in it. Like there are things which could easily be done to make the format quicker and a bit more engaging.

The cast however is kind of dire... also Ramona being first out was just silly. I mean yes she wasn't exactly nice; but isn't that what they were meant to be doing? She was overthrown and eliminated by the others as they were basically weaker than her. Prince I just found to be extremely creepy and Matt is just awful. Also I don't understand Marina's rise to the top and how she convinced people that she would be best to go up was a little odd.

There isn't exactly anyone that rootable in it either. Rishika I've gone from not liking, to liking, to not liking - and same with a few of the others.

I will watch more (mainly to fill a reality tv void) - but I'd be amazed if this got a second series
