Organised by Uhsting, in between now and when Eurovision contest season gets into high gear, we're going to choose the best NF song, and, if you aren't the sort of person to go comb through the depths of Lithuania's semi-finals, discover and vote on the best of this year's national final entries. So for the first time ever, we're going to try and cover every country while still getting as many people as read this forum to take part. If you don't take part in the nominating which I'm running, at least consider coming along to vote in the final x

Tier 1 - Sweden (Melodifestivalen)

Pretty much concurrently with this, Jahq will be running a Buzzfestivalen contest where you can vote for your favourite Melodifestivalen entry this year. The winner of that will tie into this contest (when if the winner is Loreen, the runner-up will become Sweden's representative).

 

Tier 2 - Norway (MGP), Finland (UMK), Germany (Unser Lied), Spain (Benidorm), Italy (SanRemo), Ireland (Eurosong)

 

For these national finals that got an above average amount of attention this year, you may nominate between 1 and 3 songs, ranked. If you are nominating, you should nominate in at least one of these, as these finals are the primary purpose of doing this round. I'll use the 4, 2, 1 points voting system for this.

 

The top choice from each national final will become that country's representative in the Rejects.

These countries are all entirely optional for the nomination stage and I fully expect to get 0 votes for at least a few of these. Because of this, the mods have already chosen an entry from each of these NFs that will compete if nothing changes here. So as not to distort the voting, I won't reveal their identities just yet.

 

If you would like to, regardless, register your support for a single favourite song (that didn't get chosen) from one of these countries, you are more than welcome to do so. If a choice overtakes the mod-chosen entry by 2 votes (e.g 0-2, 1-3 etc.), then it will replace it in the Rejects final.

I'm experimenting with this format a bit to help bump up interest and participation for Uhsting's idea and make sure we get everyone an opportunity to choose the right participant for each country so if you have any suggestions feel free!

What timing! I've been listening to NF entries all day ready for a YouTube video I plan to make this week or next, so I've heard some from a couple of those Tier 3's now to assist with that.

tbf 'So Low' was absolutely the right choice I just tossed in a vote for 'Movie' because I also like that.

 

We also get our first override as I got two votes to put Filip Balos in the contest and none for Zejna.

 

Romania, Poland and Ukraine got more than 2 votes to attempt to change their entrant.

I got the least overall votes for Italy, I didn't even vote for it myself as I didn't get round to listening to SanRemo in completeness.

 

A total of 6 songs got points from voters.

A very small national final, this voting system works well with these, I think. I got votes for all 5 songs.

Spain

 

I got votes for 11 songs for Spain so I will present the top 5:

 

lower down, surprisingly very little for what I thought were faves in Megara and Fusa Nocta, getting 1 and 2 points respectively

Vicco - "Nochentera" - 5 points

Karmento - "Quiero y duelo" - 8 points

 

And then there's a tiebreak with Agoney - "Quiero arder" and Aritz - "Flamenco" both on 9 points. In this case, as the songs are moving onto a further voting contest, then more highest votes is generally a better tiebreak than 'more votes', so, 🇪🇸 Aritz - "Flamenco" with two top marks is the Spanish entrant.
