'I Just Called to Say I Love You' was the lead single from soundtrack album of 'The Women In Red'. This would go on and reach #1 in the UK where it would stay there for six weeks, in the US this also reach #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 where it would stay there for three weeks.

 

2010- Timbaland ft Katy Perry- If We Ever Meet Again

 

 

'If We Ever Meet Again' was the second UK single from Timbaland's third studio album 'Shock Value II'. This would feature Katy Perry. This would go on and reach #3 in the UK, in the US this would peak at #37 in the Billboard Hot 100. I can remember this being played a lot on the music channels and on the radio. This was the highlight for me from 'Shock Value II'. This would come 91st in my Hip-Hop Top 100 of the 2010s. One thing that confused me about the song was at the end whether Sebastian sung 'Face in here' or 'Face and ear'.

 

2012- Alexandra Burke ft Erick Morillo- Elephant

 

 

'Elephant' was the lead single from Alexandra Burke's second studio album 'Heartbreak on Hold'. This would feature Colombian-American DJ Erick Morillo. This would go on and reach #3 in the UK, this isn't one that I have heard for a long time this until now. This is OK from Alexandra, but not too sure about the Auto-Tune in this.

'Red Red Wine' was the lead single from UB40's fourth studio album 'Labour of Love'. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK where it would stay for three weeks. In the US originally this would peak at #34 in the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1984, four years later this would be reissued where it would peak at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100. 'Buzzin' was the second single from Mann's debut album 'Mann's World', this would feature rapper 50 Cent. For Mann he would have one other UK Top 40 hit with his cover version of Mark Morrison's 'Return of The Mack' which would feature Snoop Dogg and Iyaz.

'Climax' was the lead single from Usher's seventh studio album 'Looking 4 Myself'. This would go on and peak at #4 in the UK, in the US this would peak at #17 in the Billboard Hot 100. I was a massive fan of this from Usher.

 

Would've guessed 'Red Red Wine' was a cover but didn't know Neil Diamond was the person to sing it!

This would sample Diana Ross 'Love Hangover'. Can't say that I have heard this from Will Smith, it's not a classic I can say but someone did buy this when it came out.

'Sing For The Moment' was the fourth single from Eminem's fourth album 'The Eminem Show'. This would go on and peak at #6 in the UK, in the US this would peak this would peak at #14 in the Billboard Hot 100, This would sample Aerosmith's 'Dream On', I feel that this sample works well from Eminem, probably not one that I have heard for a while.

'Can't Hold Us' was the second single from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' debut album 'The Heist', this would feature American singer Ray Dalton. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their 2nd US #1, this would stay at #1 for five weeks. This was a great follow-up to 'Thrift Shop' from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

'No,No,No' was the debut single From Destiny's Child self-titled debut album. Was this came out there were four members of Destiny's Child who were Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson. This would go on and peak at #5 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #3 in the Billboard Hot 100. There would be a remixed version of this that would feature Wyclef Jean.

 

 

 

 

2007- Amerie- Take Control

 

 

'Take Control' was the first single from Amerie's third studio album 'Because I Love It'. This would go on and peak at #10 in the UK becoming Amerie's second highest-charting single in the UK after '1 Thing'. In the US this failed to chart in the Billboard Hot 100. This would contain excrepts of a 1970 song 'Jimmy, Renda-se' and elements of 'You Make My Dreams' by Hall & Oates. Can't say this is one that I have heard for quite a while only just since I started doing these series. Amerie's other single however 'Gotta Work' I would consider that to be a absolute classic.

'We Made You' was the second single from Eminem's sixth studio album 'Relapse'. This would go on and peak at #4 in the UK, in the US this would peak at #9 in the Billboard Hot 100. This particular lyric about the late Amy Winehouse and her husband Blake is a particular thing I don't like:

'Taboo' was the third single from Glamma Kid's debut album 'Kidology' this would feature Shola Ama. This would go on and peak at #10 in the UK, can't say that I have heard this until I started doing this series. This would include the melody of Sade's 1985 hit 'The Sweetest Taboo'. This would be Glamma Kid's highest charting single in the UK, it would later match this peak in November with 'Why'.

'He Wasn't Man Enough' was the lead single from Toni Braxton's third studio album 'The Heat'. This would go on and peak at #4 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #2 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is one again that I haven't heard for a while but it sounds great from Toni Braxton.

 

 

2003- Lisa Maffia- All Over

 

 

'All Over' was the debut solo single from So Solid Crew member Lisa Maffia from her debut album 'First Lady'. This would go on and peak at #2 in the UK this would include uncredited vocals from producer JD and fellow So Solid Crew member Megaman. This isn't one that I have heard for a while.

1996- Liverpool FC & Boot Room Boyz- Pass & Move (It's The Liverpool Groove)

 

 

Be warned, this may not be a popular choice maybe the first football song to feature on this #ThrowbackThursday series, but it is Liverpool FC's 1996 FA Cup Final song, the days where football clubs would release songs before the FA Cup Final, thanks to some rapping from John Barnes. This would go on and peak at #4 in the UK. For Liverpool FC it wouldn't be FA Cup glory as they lost 1-0 to Manchester United, notable for Liverpool wearing cream Armani suits to the FA Cup Final.

 

2003- Sean Paul- Get Busy

 

 

'Get Busy' was the second single from Sean Paul's second studio album 'Dutty Rock'. This would go on and peak at #4 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 where it would stay there at #1 for 3 weeks.

 

 

2004- Cassidy ft R Kelly- Hotel

 

 

This from American rapper Cassidy which featured disgraced singer R.Kelly, he is now locked up for 31 years for jail for after being found guilty of eight counts of sex trafficking and one of racketeering in a New York court.

 

Months later, he was convicted of child sexual abuse in a second federal trial in Chicago.

2014- Justin Timberlake- Not A Bad Thing

 

 

'Not A Bad Thing' was the third single from Justin Timberlake's fourth studio album 'The 20/20 Experience- 2 of 2'. This would go on and peak at #21 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #8 in the Billboard Hot 100. The album version for this was 11 minutes and 28 seconds, the radio edit for this was 4 minutes and 26 seconds. This was all right from Justin Timberlake although it is one that I haven't listened to for quite a while.

'Hypnotize' was the first single from The Notorious B.I.G.'s second and final studio album 'Life After Death'. This was released five days before he died in a drive-by shooting. This would go on and peak at #10 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100, it was the fifth song by a credited artist to hit number one posthumously. This would certain uncredited vocals from Pamela Long.

I apologize the next one may not be so popular, 'Eenie Meenie' was featured on Justin Bieber's first studio album 'My World 2.0'. This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK. In the US this would peak at #15 in the Billboard Hot 100. This hasn't aged well from Sean Kingston and Justin Bieber.

'That's the Way Love Is' was the only UK Top 10 hit for Ten City. This would go on and peak at #8 in the UK. This was one that I wasn't familiar with before I started doing this series. This sounds all right from them.

 

2004- Jay Sean ft Rishi Rish Project- Eyes On You

 

 

 

'Eyes On You' was the debut solo single from Jay Sean from his album 'Me Against Myself' this would feature The Rishi Rich Project. This would go on and peak at #6 in the UK, again this wasn't one that I remember or have heard until I started doing this series.

 

2007- Akon- Don't Matter

 

 

I apologize for the next one this may not be a popular choice it is 'Don't Matter' from Akon which the third single from his second album 'Konvicted'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK, in the US this would fare better by peaking at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 where it would stay for two weeks. The chorus for this was based on an Bob Marley song 'Zimbabwe'.

'Party People' was the first single from rapper Nelly's fifth studio album 'Brass Knuckles' this would feature Fergie. This would go on and peak at #14 in the UK, in the US this would peak at #40 in the Billboard Hot 100. In the music video this would include a cameo from Keri Hilson. I remember that I played this a lot when it came out. Was definitely a fan of this when it came out although not one that I have heard for a while.

 

2012- will.i.am ft Eva Simons- This Is Love

 

 

'This Is Love' was the lead single from will.i.am's fourth studio album '#willpower', this would feature Eva Simons. This would go on and become will.i.am's first solo UK #1 where it stay there for one week before being knocked off by Maroon 5/Wiz Khalifa's 'Payphone'. I can remember first hearing this at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. I liked this from will.i.am and Eva Simons, this would come 58th in my Hip-Hop Songs of the 2010s which I did back in 2020.

This would come 68th in my Top 100 Songs of the 90s which I did back in 2016.
