#8 My best friends girl

 

 

‘Tragedy part 2’ lands at #8 in this countdown. The Steptacular album definitely has some highs but also a few lows like this track. The lyrics are cringy, H’s vocals are strained and it’s a cheap version of ‘Tragedy’ imo.

Agree that its a cheap version of tragedy and also H vocals dont suit the song at all.

Agreed! A part 2 can work (Just like the first time says ‘hello’) and sometimes it can be a wreck like this..

I must confess I loved this back at the time, like I’d play it constantly.

 

Looking back it’s not so great, not horrible though.

 

Agree with the cheap Tragedy comparisons too.

 

Finally would’ve it worked better with H sharing the vocals with Lee?

#7 Have yourself a merry little Christmas

 

 

What were they thinking with the Light up the world era? Maybe a cheesy Christmas album full of upbeat versions of Christmas songs would’ve worked. But this album is one I’d like to forget…Dreadful and missing the joyful and poppy spirit of Steps. Their version of this song sounds boring and I really don’t enjoy Lisa’s vocals…

To be honest I think most versions of that song are slow and maudlin sounding, so they pretty much delivered what could ever be expected from that song (and I actually think they sing it nicely!) - but yes, it is a very un-Steps song choice.

True, it’s not a very uplifting track itself. The vocals are okish on their version, Lisa just sounds too nasal and pitchy for me. Amen and they should’ve never done this song or album!

To be honest o often forget this album exists. If o was to compile my own top 10 least favourite I don’t think a single song from Light Up The World would make it. Not because I like any of them but because I don’t consider it a Steps studio album. I mean even they try to forget/ignore it. :lol:

Haha, I understand. Sadly it is a part of their legacy so for me it was hard to ignore this album ;)

Though some things are Better best forgotten!
