Posted May 6, 20232 yr I've never seen Turin Brakes before, but liked their hits of the mid-00's, so was interested to see how they had fared with the years, as they have a fairly low-profile these days. The answer is "wow!". The song and musical quality is pretty constant, the new stuff is the equal of the hits and it really wouldn't matter which order they did the tracks in, they were on fire (appropriately enough). All 4 of the band were an essential part of the band, all interplayed and improvised, and really got a great reception - they extended into bonus tracks beyond the usual "Time to go", and the small venue helped enormously, intimate and crowd-participating, eye-contact was very much a thing when you're on the same level, more or less. Without being gushing and hyperbolic, it's how I wistfully imagine a fresh-faced Jimi Hendrix Experience might have come over in terms of musicianship, but with different (fab) vocals and a different style of songs. Best songs: all of them, but of the hits obviously Painkiller is a stand-out. There's a new album on the way, the tracks they did off it were great, and they will be touring the 20th anniversary of album Ether Song later in the year, don't miss it! Support act Tom Speight was also pretty decent, affable singer-songwriter ballads and he popped into the crowd at the end for an acosutic, non-microphoned good-natured busk. Tom apparently had a number one in Brazil at the start of his career, still ongoing!
May 6, 20232 yr I'm glad you had a fun time seeing them. They are a band obviously I recognise by name and being in the charts etc but don't recall any of their songs haha. Might need to re familiarise myself on that!

May 6, 20232 yr 'Pain Killer' looks to be the only one I could know. They weren't a band I took any notice of mind with lots of other big bands around.
May 12, 20232 yr Just given 'Painkiller' a check and yeah immediately recognise it. Not a bad song tbf.
