Posted December 29, 200618 yr Have you ever heard about a singer/songwriter called Jem? Her voice is something like Beth Orton, Dido or Imogen Heap voices but much better... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f368/alinforums/forums/jem01.jpg Biography: Jemma Griffiths (born May 18, 1975 in Penarth, nr. Cardiff, Wales), better known as Jem is a Welsh singer-songwriter known for her eclectic musical stylings. Her debut album has defied the categorization of some music critics with a fusion of genres. While some of her songs are straight up rock ballads, some of her tracks verge on electronica and trip-hop. Her throaty, mellow voice draws immediate comparisons to Imogen Heap, Beth Orton and to a lesser extent Dido. However, Jem herself prefers to let her musical work stand on its own, rather than be compared to other artists. Along with electronic producer Guy Sigsworth (Björk, Frou Frou), she wrote the song "Nothing Fails", which was later reworked by Madonna and appeared on her 2003 American Life album. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_(singer) Discography: Albums: "Finally Woken" (2004) EPs: "It All Starts Here" (2003) Singles: "24" (2003) (radio only) "They" (2005) #6 UK "Just a Ride" (2005) #14 UK "Wish I" (2005) #24 UK Various: "Amazing Life" (Six Feet Under Soundtrack) "The Thieves" (Featuring with The Weapons) "Once in Every Lifetime" (Eragon Soundtrack) And...: As for 2007 Jem will release a new album! :) http://www.jem-music.net PS She's my favourite female singer B)
December 29, 200618 yr Yep heard of her liked her stuff but never really heard more than her singles ;) Wish I is my fave single!! :) Love, Kirsty xx
December 30, 200618 yr She's a blander version of Dido imo  Just a younger version with darker hair! I did like 'They' though ^_^
December 30, 200618 yr Bland and dirgey. "They" is the only decent thing she has done. Hopeing for something stronger this forthcoming era...
December 30, 200618 yr She's a blander version of Dido imo Surely that is impossible. I have her debut album "Finally Woken". It is OK but nothing special. But "They" was a great breakthrough single.
December 30, 200618 yr I think she is absolutely dreadful imo! I think her voice is really weak and she is terrible live!!! Really don't see the fuss!!!!
December 30, 200618 yr I really like her. However, her album had the worst single choices in history surely. Why on earth was '24' passed up?! Or even 'Come On Closer'?
December 30, 200618 yr   she was great, her album one of my faves from last year Flying High & Missing You
December 30, 200618 yr I really like her too. 'They' sounded so fresh and different. qSLvcJ4I1mw I do notice she is like Marmite however, you love her music or hate it.
December 31, 200618 yr Oh I really liked her. Just A Ride was my favourite track, a very summery track, uplifting. :D I thought 24 should have been released instead of the dismal Wish I, but hey ho what can you do...
January 2, 200718 yr Author I think she is absolutely dreadful imo! I think her voice is really weak You make me laugh! :D ...and she is terrible live!!! Her voice is terrible live?! Watch some videos -_- ? Come on Closer (Live) nAwqsnUz7d4 Flying High (Unplugged) Ur-wMZjGbjE I really like her. However, her album had the worst single choices in history surely. Why on earth was '24' passed up?! Or even 'Come On Closer'? With such great songs on the albums, why she passed up "24"?! That was one of worst decisions of her definitely! Bland and dirgey. "They" is the only decent thing she has done. Hopeing for something stronger this forthcoming era... Have you ever heard the whole album? So, do you think "24", "Come on Closer" or even "Falling for You" aren't strong enough? ;) Edited January 3, 200718 yr by Alin
January 2, 200718 yr  the album and indeed it was criminal that 24 was never released as a single
January 2, 200718 yr Author She's a blander version of Dido imo  Just a younger version with darker hair! I did like 'They' though ^_^ Jem can't be a new Dido... And not even Dido with guitars :P Blander? With such variety of musical genres on her album? Songs are enough different each other (take "24" and "Wish I" by example). About her voice: as previously someone said, you love it or hate it... Surely that is impossible. I have her debut album "Finally Woken". It is OK but nothing special. But "They" was a great breakthrough single. OK! What other songs from FW you like? (PS I read your Top 101 and I found a lot of favourite songs of mine too! As I see you have a great musical culture)  she was great, her album one of my faves from last year Flying High & Missing You  I love Flying High! Wonderful ballad! is there any plans for a new album soon i wonder Yes! On the top of 2007. ;) Edited January 2, 200718 yr by Alin
